The village was bristling with people, the evening breeze blowing gently across the land. Narene observed the area with curious eyes as she walked along the street. The night lamps hadn't been lit yet but the streets were still bright.
Samak had never been a busy place—always quiet like it was sleeping—but now she found it noisy. She was here but her mind wasn't. Somehow, her mind had chosen to stay with Sharen and she had allowed it, for it was where she'd rather be. Beside him.
Was he doing okay? Had they arrived in the Holy Capital? Would he succeed in his plan to kill the Holy Emperor? Narene felt he could do it. If anyone could stand up to the tyrant then it had to be Sharen—the hero who set himself against evil.
She was proud of him in a way. He inspired her and also…loved her!
