The sudden urge to kill—the need for destruction—almost overwhelmed Zograt and she stumbled away from Sharen's writhing body, covering her ears and feeling her body tremble. It was unbearable but the voices were back.
They urged her, pulled at her like a long lost, disobedient child. There was something about these voices that brought her close to madness. They didn't just pull or urge her to do things but they compelled her with each urge—something she could try but never resist.
It brought great fear over her. For days she'd been with Sharen, thinking that the worst of her nightmares were over. For days she'd been herself, very calm and collected. She'd been able to see the beauty of life, enjoy the breezes and the touch of sand on her skin.
