~ Vict, I like you ~
Lately, Victor couldn't focus on his work. There were so many things occupying his mind and all of those related to no other than Evelyne. For the past few days, she was way too busy with the works that buried her alive. To make Victor more worried, Evelyne rarely replied to his text, let alone he knew how she was going.
This day, from the morning Victor was waiting for Evelyne's answer for his latest text. "Victor, you look troubled these days, are you alright?" Asked Jimmy, the doctor who taught him during his training in the hospital. They were in the emergency room where Victor was stationed.
"Ah, I'm okay. I'm sorry to make you worry, doc," answered Victor with a smile, to show that he was really alright.
"You sure? Take a rest if you're tired or sick. Those documents can be done later," said Dr Jimmy understandingly.
Victor looked at the doctor, smiling confidently, showing that writing those documents was nothing exhausting for him. "Thank you doc, I will rest later," he answered and continued writing.
Suddenly, someone in the room shouted. "Someone, please help me!"
Victor looked at the source of the shout and found a doctor handling a patient. "Go, he needs your help. I'll watch from behind." As Jimmy said, Victor immediately approached the doctor and helped. Jimmy examined the condition and he was proud of how helpful and skilled Victor was. He really knew what he had to do and how to do it. His movement was the proof, it was firm yet gentle and efficient.
Finally, in ten minutes, everything was finished. The patient's condition was back to normal and under control. "Thank you. Are you a training doctor?" Thanked the doctor after he did his last examination.
"Yes. I'm Victor, Dr Jimmy's student," Victor introduced himself.
The doctor looked at Dr Jimmy with a smile. "You have a good student with you." He then looked back at Victor. "You did an amazing job! Excellent!" With that, after some small talk between them, the doctor left Victor and Jimmy.
"I personally think that you really did a great job. Haha, you're really great," Jimmy was satisfied. With that, they returned to what they were doing before. Victor continued writing the document, still waiting for Evelyne's reply, and Jimmy continued checking the room and condition.
Until it was five in the afternoon, not much happened. Victor was tidying his work and ready to leave the hospital when a notification entered his phone. It was from Evelyne, replying to his text.
'I'm sorry for the late reply. The event is just finished.'
Those two sentences made Victor's lip curve. He typed a few words then sent it.
'Okay, how's your result?'
It only needed three seconds for him to get his answer. A crying emoji. That was what he got. 'Seems like she's not in a good mood. I better be careful in our meeting tonight.'
After he reminded Evelyne that he would pick her up for a walk, he left the hospital with his car. 'Where should I bring her? A cafe? She may need coffee or tea. No, it's not good for her health. Oh, a healthy restaurant that only sells veggies. How about..' His mind was now busy thinking about a perfect place and what to do to cheer Evelyne up.
With his mind focused on Evelyne, getting home felt faster than usual. Right after he entered his apartment unit, the first thing he did was take a shower and find his best outfit to wear.
When he finished and sure that everything was perfect, he took his car key and left his apartment. The watch on his hands showed it was almost seven and Evelyne already texted him that she almost arrived at her apartment. He couldn't be too late or else Evelyne would be tired and in a completely bad mood.
Fortunately, there was no problem along his way. Only several minutes for him to arrive and he found Evelyne getting out of a taxi with her usual flat face. As she was getting near to him, Victor also approached her. Once they were close enough, both of them stood still.
Evelyne, who just lost in her competition, still maintained her flat strong face, which made Victor worried. He reached out his hand and placed it on Evelyne's head and stroked it. "You've done great," he said with a warm smile. "Let's go," he moved his hand to Evelyne's hand and held it gently to guide her to his car.
In their car, after both of them sat comfortably on their seats, Victor examined Evelyne's condition. Starting from her complexion, temperature and last, her pulse. "What happened?" He asked. There was nothing wrong with Evelyne's condition, yet she was way too silent.
"Nothing. Everything went well, except for losing the competition. Well, it's just my luck hasn't come yet, right?" Explained Evelyne with a sigh.
"If you want to cry, then cry. It's not good to hold it," said Victor, worried about her. Yet, Evelyne just shook her head slowly and looked out through the window. She left Victor with no choice but to drive his car. "Have you eaten something for dinner?" He asked with a nod as his answer. With that, he decided to bring Evelyne to a garden for a stroll.
The garden wasn't far away from Evelyne's apartment, only five minutes with a car at normal speed. After the five minutes ended Victor parked his car, and they got out of the car while holding hands, they took a slow walk together. "Do you like the garden?"
The garden was decorated with lamps that radiated colourful lights that were beautiful when combined one with the other. "Beautiful," said Evelyne with her gaze locked on the beauty. Yet, Victor knew, her eyes and expression indicate that her mind was somewhere else. From the fact that she wasn't sick and didn't shed even a single tear from losing, Victor concluded that something else disturbed her mind.
"Evelyne, actually, what happened? You're way too silent, that makes me worry."
Evelyne's step was stopped right after Victor asked her. "Ah, is that so?" She asked him back. Even without Victor answering her, she got the answer from the concern shown in Victor's eyes that locked right at hers. "Well… during the preparation, something happened and it makes me think about something."
"What is it?"
Hesitated for a little while, Evelyne then answered. "Vict, I like you."
