Chapter 2 - Chapter II

Valentine

Bustling streets are filling the whole car ride on the way to school, trying to distract myself, the thoughts of him filled my head, my best friend, starting from how we met up until I decided to end everything, I broke him. I began to think while focusing my eyes on the road, hoping not to hit an innocent pedestrian or a pole.

I met Alistair when we were kids at a local kindergarten on the suburban part of New York. I was playing alone when a kid my age with big blue eyes - that resembles the sky on a hot summer day; decided to ask if he could play the building blocks with me, I agreed enthusiastically, that's how our friendship bloomed.

We attended the same elementary school and had a few classes together, he's the complete opposite of me, he was timid and always kept to himself, but that doesn't mean he didn't have friends. It was at fifth grade when I started noticing how his eyes sparkle whenever he saw something that he liked or how his hair swiftly dance whenever the wind blew, I shrugged it off thinking little of it.

Sixth grade came and my parents decided it will be best if we go back to London, to spend the time with my grandparents. So I asked Alistair if he would like to meet, he agreed telling me he had to say something as well.

I greeted him the time I arrived, "Hello Alistair, how are you?", he looked nervous, but he still managed to answer, "I'm good Val, so what is it you wanted to tell me?", a sad smile had painted my lips "We're moving back to London this coming Monday" his demeanor faltered but he still smiled and replied, "Its okay, Val, I understand, in fact the reason I called you here is…" he looked down before continuing, "to tell you that I'm gay, I already told my parents and they said they support me. I hope this doesn't change anything between us". He looked like he was about to cry so I ruffled his hair and cupped his cheeks, I wiped the single tear that fell from his face, I smiled and told him that it's okay and I accept him. We hung out and when the time came we parted.

Monday came, Alistair asked me if he can see me for the last time, saying he had to give me something, our flight won't be leaving until noon. He decided to come to the airport and bid me goodbye, before I entered the glass doors he gave me a pink envelope, saying that I shouldn't open it until I arrived at my destination. I agreed. By the time my family was inside the airport he and his dad went home.

While waiting for our plane to be called, curiosity got the best of me, and I opened the letter. Alistair gave me a love letter, I was feeling a surge of emotions, and my heart was pounding, but I shrugged it off. Later on we found out that our flight was delayed, and it was re-scheduled on Wednesday. So decided to meet with him again, to ask what the heck is this.

I arrived at school 15 minutes early, so I headed to the principal's office to get my schedule. My first class was Literature and Composition with Mr. Morris. I entered the classroom and I introduced myself thinking I'm Mr. Perfectly Fine, as my eyes wandered, I saw some dude that screamed bad boy, nudged the boy next to him, he has the same blue eyes, but only duller than the ones I remembered.

Mr. Morris told me to look for an empty seat, I spotted a lone chair at the back of the guy who nudged Alistair. As I sat down, Alistair mumbled something under his breath, and the guy replied with the same tone and they laughed silently, who is this guy? Who ever he is, I don't like him being close to Alistair. I'm going to make everything right between us.
