As sunshine trickled into the cave, Gunn awoke and stretched. He looked around, surprisingly noticed his grandpa wasn't nowhere to be seen. The half-asleep boy saw on their table some breakfast left for him with a note. He picked it up and read aloud.
"Left early to fish – Grandpa."
It seemed to Gunn that his grandfather got an early start today. Gunn tossed on his gear and stepped outside. If he wanted to bring home a good supper, he would need to get an early start too.
*Kaboom*
Instead of sunshine and fresh air hitting him when he stepped out, a cloud of dust and dirt blew past him, knocking him on his feet. Looking toward the direction of the wave of earth, all Gunn could hear was an eerie silence. Then, tons of animals and beasts jumped from the brush and ran by Gunn in terror.
Jumping out of the way, "Whoa, that's an Ox-gator. That level 3 spirit beast rarely leaves the river." Gunn backed up to the cave to stay out of the way of the escaping beast. He turned to the river and asked, "What is going on over there?"
*Whoosh*
Another tidal wave of air pressure swept past him. This last airwave caused the previous beast to speed up, and soon no more animals ran past Gunn. As the stampede settled, he could hear loud explosions in the distance still.
"Grandpa!" It suddenly hit him that his grandfather was in danger. Bolting towards the loud noises and river, Gunn began to panic. Horrible thoughts flooded his brain, and he began to worry. He had to hurry. The boy had to immediately stop running after coming to a newly formed cliff where once a winding trail downward once existed.
"What the…" exclaimed Gunn. Looking out, he saw a giant 9-tailed fox
Spirit Beast fighting a flying man with a sword.
The man and beast attacked several times midair. Sword clashed with claw. Flames met with sword blasts. The battle was destroying the surrounding area, and this was why all the beasts were escaping in fear. After the awe of seeing a cultivator in real life, Gunn started to look around. Eventually, his eyes landed on an old man holding on for dear life on a tree's trunk while the battle raged above him.
"DIE HUMAN!" a loud spirit message popped inside of Gunn's head, painting him very much as he was a mortal.
The angry and wounded mythical beast opened its mouth, forming a fireball in its jaws. Clenching its mouth shut launched the attack forward at the sword cultivator. The man propelled a blinding energy slash that met the fiery ball diverting its attack.
Gunn saw the direction of the blast, and he yelled out. "GRANDPA!!!!!!!!!"
As if almost able to hear over the battle above him, the scared old man looked up the hill to see his grandson yelling at him. Just like he always did, Burgha smiled at his boy happily, knowing he got to see him one last time.
"I love you, my boy."
With everything happening, Gunn could only see his grandpa smiling at him and say something before the giant fireball incinerated the area. Just like that, his grandfather disappeared from his life. Collapsing to the ground, the boy began to cry into his weak hands.
The beast or cultivator didn't even know what just transpired as the two continued to battle. Wounds gradually accumulated upon them, and their stamina running low.
As the fight went on, Gunn's sadness became rage. He wished more than anything he could kill these two monsters. Watching them fight, the boy saw that a small area below the fox was untouched. He wondered why until he saw two small creatures cowering next to the brush at the center of that area.
"That must be what the Spirit Beast is defending." Pulling out his hunting knife and gripping it firmly, he began to climb down the cliff. Only one thought going through his mind was kill. They took his grandfather so he would kill the beasts. In his fury, Gunn slipped a few times and tumbled, but he got up every time. As he got closer, the clashes from the two up above made the pressure below unbearable. When he was almost 50 meters away, the cultivator beat him to the two pups.
"I don't need both of them," shouted the man. He lunged forward and killed the golden-looking fox cub with his sword. The silver one let out a screech only to have the giant fox motherland behind the man. Grabbing the man with her teeth, the mother fox launched the cultivator backward, tossing him far into the distance. The mother looked down at her dead young and flew after the sword cultivator in a rage.
Seeing his chance, Gunn ran over to the area of the young cubs. As he ran up, he saw the silver fox nudging the dead cub, trying to awaken it. The silver cub didn't even see Gunn sneak up. The boy grabbed the scruff of the tiny fox, and it looked back at him. The cub let out a whimper knowing that it was about to die like its sibling. Gunn looked down at the dead cub and then back at the silver beast in his hand.
He pulled back his blade to plunge it into the beast. He then said, "I'm sorry…."
