Chapter 1 - The Electrocution

Alex was woken up by the loud banging at his door. He looked at it with a little annoyance before getting up from the floor casually. It was not the first time this had happened, sleeping on the floor, usually after drinking so much his head felt like it was been split in half like how it felt at the moment. Groaning a little bit, he opened the door and was glared at the rude person who woke him up so early. It was a middle aged man wearing a cheap suit and smelling of alcohol and cigarettes.

"Mr Smith, I have been knocking at your door for thirty minutes now, are you deaf?" the man asked him, a little hostilely. Alex looked at him with an angry frown.

"What do you want, Gudry? I paid my rent on time," Alex answered back.

"I'm not here for rent, I'm here because Mrs Putin complained about screaming coming from your apartment yesterday night! I told you about having those nightmares, if you wake everyone up once again I will have to kick you out," the man scolded him but ex wasn't even listening because as soon as he heard he was screaming last night, he remembered what had happened. He was reading a Fandom page about Slade Wilson when the laptop slipped from his hand, into the footbath, electrocuting him!

"Say, you've grown a little taller, huh? Must be the meds working at last. But you have to keep your nightmares at check," the man said before walking away. Alex absent minded closed the door and the went to check on the laptop. It was still in the basin and was dead and so was he! How was it that he was still alive? Just then, his phone rang from somewhere in the apartment. Strangely, he accurately looked at where the ringing was coming from, beneath the sofa. Be went over and picked it.

"Hello?" he answered without checking the phone ID.

"Alex, you said you would cover my shift if I covered yours. Why aren't you in the club, man?" he heard a familiar deep voice ask from the other side.

"Shit, sorry Reg, I might have overslept. Don't worry, I'll make sure the paycut is from me," he apologized. Reg or Reggie is a workmate at a fancy club. They worked as bouncers and as far as a civilian went, he was alright so he felt bad letting him down. He went to the shower, forsaking his morning exercise, had a quick shower, changed his clothes, had a very light breakfast and he was off to work. He arrived in ten minutes after taking some shortcuts.

"Alex, you're late!" a man in his early thirties shouted at him from the first floor of the club the moment he walked in.

"Sorry boss, had a little too much to drink last night," Alex apologized but the man seemed not to care.

"You are one of my best workers, Alex, don't make me fire you! Just go back to work and know I am deducting a two hours pay from your salary!" the man said and walked away. Alex sighed in defeat then went to change into his security uniform which was a black, tight fitting T-shirt, black khaki pants and black shoes. They were also outfitted with earpieces which the owner of the club, a young millionaire, thought it would look cool. Once he was dressed, he went back to the club where it was starting to get lively.

Alex had a full day shift after Reg covered for him the previous day and normally working around the place for six hours would be exhausting but here he was, 8pm and yet not even a yawn of tiredness had escaped from him. There were very little troublesome folks here and he was glad for that, made his job easier.

"Excuse me, do you know where the bathroom is?" a drunk party girl asked him, her hands been quite adventurous on his left arm.

"Past the DJ to your left, can't miss it," he answered dismissively. As a former soldier, he had slept with all types of women that he had grown to dislike loose ones. The girl gave him a flirtatious wink as she walked away, swaying her butt seductively but Alex had already looked away. No need to get even more pay cuts! He was heading to the entrance to make sure nobody was trying to sneak in when he heard a gunshot coming from outside.

Unknowingly, his hand grabbed for a pint full of beer at the table next to him, his eyes narrowed and as soon as the door was opened, be flung the pint at the first person who walked out. It was an armed man in a ski mask and black overalls. What he never expected was a pint full of beer to smash onto his face, throwing him backwards as if he had been shot with a gunshot. Alex had seen a muzzle of another gun behind the second unopened door and he rushed over, not even registering how fast he was going and gave the door a flying knee kick. The door barrelled outwards, hitting the second armed man and throwing him thirteen feet away onto the road like a rag doll. The man was not lucky for a taxi was cruising over and was ran over.

"Ezekiel!" Alex heard a woman's voice say and he turned to where the voice came from. It was a third and the last armed person. She was paralysed in fear and that's all Alex needed. He charged over, reaching her in a matter of seconds, directed the shotgun in her hands to aim upwards with his left hand then pushed it almost effortlessly towards her face, hitting it with a sickening crunch. Alex did it twice and the woman slumped on the ground, out cold.

"Urgh, what the hell was that?" Alex heard the first man groan. He looked over and saw him trying to get up. Alex walked over since the man was still disoriented then gave him a heavy punch to the jaw, sending the man back to the ground, out cold like the woman. Alex then looked at the other body whose face wasn't covered in a ski mask and saw it was another bouncy named Bobby. He was an aggressive big guy but still a co-worker.

"What happened?" he heard someone ask from behind him. He looked behind, ready for combat but only saw a scared looking woman eyeing at the bodies shakily.

"You need to call the cops and vacate this area immediately. This is a crime scene," Alex told her, calmly.

Ten minutes later, the police arrive and immediately tapped the area. The two unconscious armed people were cuffed before put in an ambulance from severe head trauma while the body of the third guy was bagged to be sent to the morgue. Alex was seated inside the empty club with two detectives questioning him.

"Tell us what happened,"

"Well, I was doing my normal rounds, checking to make sure everyone behaved and there was no funny business happening around. Like usual, I would check on the entrance to make sure nobody tried to get past the guy outside when I heard a gunshot. My instincts kicked in and threw a pint at the first guy that walked in, which luckily was an armed man. I then kicked at the door where the second guy was hiding and it sent him flying to the street. The third one must have been lookout for she was further away. Good thing the death of the second guy distracted her to lose focus of me and I used the opportunity to hit her unconscious. The first guy was coming to and I punched him unconscious too." The two detectives looked at him as if they were looking at a rare specimen.

"You are saying you subdued all three of the culprits in just under ten seconds?" one of them asked him.

"I didn't say I did it in ten seconds! It was definitely less than that," Alex said with a little pride. Even in his prime, he never would have achieved such victory! Something was definitely up with his body!

"And where did you learn how to fight like that?"

"Marine Corp," Alex answered, showing then the tattoo he had on his right bicep. Now that he looks at his T-shirt, it seemed quite snug on him! Just then, The man who scolded him before came up.

"Sorry for interfering, detectives, but here's the CCTV footage of the whole incident. I believe it will answer the questions you have," he said and gave them a flash drive.

"Well, thanks. Stay in town, Mr Smith. Someone died tonight and it might be murder or manslaughter, it depends on what we see in the footage," one of them said and they walked away.

"Thanks, boss,"

"After seeing you fight like that, I would fight tooth and nail to make sure you stayed with us. Once this blows off, be prepared for a raise in both station and salary," the boss said, patted Alex's back and walked away.
