Chereads / Mad Hound of Esselgarde / Chapter 5 - First Rampage

Chapter 5 - First Rampage

The three of them were welcomed by an overly obese old man with an extremely fake smile.

"Welcome to my humble office, My Lord. It's my honor to have you here." he said with a high pitched voice that screeched their ears.

Carseain whispered.

" Rovenin, I am utterly disgusted."

" Young Master, please keep it low and in moderation."

"Don't worry. I don't plan on destroying the whole building. "

" I meant your voice and the insults. "

Nox turned blue.

' What do you mean by that? Is the destruction fine? The whole building? Please just don't destroy anything. '

They walked through the lobby of the top floor which was lavishly constructed. It had paintings that were worth many hundred golds. Carseain scanned the walls.

'It seems like the money he swindled is used for showing off like this. '

The merchant guided them to the sitting room which also served as his office. Carseain sat on the couch with crossed legs whereas Rovenin and Nox stood right behind him.

' This scene it's exactly the same office as I saw in my memories. Since I know where it is hidden, let's deal with it swiftly. '

"Let me quickly cut to the chase, Mr Swindler. Should I send you neck flying or are you paying up? "

'I'm supposed to be a noble but I sound like a total Loan Shark.'

Rovenin bent and whispered to Carseain.

" Young Master, you're either supposed to sugarcoat your words or say it in a roundabout way. "

Nox: ' Wait wait, are death threats okay? '

Carseain: " Too bothersome. I want to go back and eat some meat. "

Nox: ' Is that supposed to be an excuse ?'

" Haah... I think I should just be content that he's being docile. " Rovenin thought out loud and sighed.

' That's nowhere close to docile. But somehow I totally agree with Sir Rovenin. Compared to Young Master pre-sleeping beauty phase, this is definitely heaven.'

The merchant frowned a little. ' I heard he's a stupid brat, so this should be easy.'

' That look... this fat ass is completely looking down on me.'

" Young Master, I think there's a misunderstanding. I never ----"

Carseain placed his sword with a bang on the table betwixt them. The merchant's voice faltered.

" ---- dare does such a thing..." he finished the sentence with a gulp.

Carseain stared at him for a while

The room fell silent. Carseain changed his expression gradually from extremely annoyed to a bright smile.

"I see. I must make it fair, right? There should be no misunderstandings. Let's hear what you've got to say."

The merchant, fumbling a little, stood up.

" Oh...ye-yes, Thank you for your generosity. I've prepared the list of goods and expenses of the mentioned discrepancies. I'll go get the documents."

He ran to his desk at the back to get them.

Carseain : "Nox, how was my generous Act?"

Nox : ' An act, of course.'

Rovenin : " With all due respect, It was a complete shit show. "

Carseain : "Are you Nox ?"

Rovenin : " But Nox values his life."

Nox : ' That's true .'

Carseain : " And you don't? "

Rovenin : " Young Master, you won't be able to live without me! "

Carseain : " Blergh..." He stuck out his tongue. "That's straight-up gross. "

The merchant came and gave the documents. Carseain, Rovenin and Nox carefully inspected them in order. The merchant just stood there with a glint in his eyes.

'With this, he won't be able to accuse me. Those documents are impeccable.'

Carseain : "By the way, Nox your answer?"

Nox : " It felt like the seal on these documents, Young Master. "

Rovenin : " Wonderful Nox! Young Master, that answer was a perfect example of sugar coating and saying in a roundabout. Your generosity was faker than these documents."

Carseain : " Rovenin, you're being unusually talkative today. It seems my little gift was too effective. "

He tossed the papers on the table while unsheathing his sword with a swift moment. Without needing to induce magic into his sword he easily cut through the merchant's desk from a distance. Carseain was grinning.

" And here we go again...." sighed Nox.

The merchant was dumbfounded while Rovenin calmly collected the papers.

"What the hell are you doing? Even if yo----"

Carseain placed his sword on his neck and sliced it a little.

"Stop grunting you pig. You see, I was never here to listen to your chatter like those officials do. "

Carseain moved his sword to spill his blood.

" I ...I showed it, My proof of innocence."

Nox shook his head. ' It seems he doesn't realize that we're here for persecution. We already confirmed he's guilty, we just need solid proof. '

"Seeing the quality of your 'proof of innocence' you must've spent quite a sum. But too bad, I want the 'proof of fraudulence'.

So, now~ where is it ?"

Carseain withdrew his sword and walked towards the walls. He sliced them like a piece of cake and onto the next wall.

'He's mad. He's definitely insane. Who in their right mind---'

Rovenin knocked him out.

'Ah...I could see through his thoughts.'

"Well, I'm impressed by Young Master holding back so much." Nox nodded in agreement with Rovenin.

"Sir Rovenin, I sense the presence of a few hidden mice. Your orders ?"

"Why the hell are you asking? Take care of it. Keep them alive." Carseain commanded.

"There are 5 men. Two seem mages," he added.

Nox was startled.

' Is he a monster? I could barely feel their presence but he can tell numbers and nature so accurately?'

" You heard him, Nox"

Rovenin's voice made him snap out of it.

"As you command" replied Nox and disappeared.

Carseain broke walls with his bare fist.

' I've done much more severe rampaging but this is my first after waking up. Somehow, it feels strange yet awesome to move your body freely without care destroying everything in your way. It's a shame I can't go all out.'

"Young Master, please be careful not to destroy evidence. Although, I'm sure you can't hear me," said Rovenin, a little worried.

" Rovenin, I think I found it. There's a funny-looking safe here."

Rovenin went over to take a look.

"Hmmm.... Okay. I can open it." saying that he started working on it.

' It looks like an A or B grade, it'll take time. Then, I'll go---'

"It opened," said Rovenin.

" You're done?" Carseain asked, surprised.

"Yes," he replied nonchalantly.

"Ah...You act so childishly that I keep forgetting you're a genius that Magic tower failed to scout."

"That is the extent of my loyal----"

"Yes, yes. Check what's inside."

Rovenin opened the safe and found a bunch of documents, a stack of letters and some jewels stashed in it.

"Proof of fraudulence. All intact."

"Don't you have something more to say?"

" Wonderfully executed, Young Master! You did a very good job."

Rovenin clapped his hands, smiling brightly. Carseain was ticked.

"Somehow, this is making me even more pissed."

" Young Master, it's me"

"Ah...Nox, How was it? "

" One mage died. Three ran away and one was apprehended. They used a warp scroll."

'Oh god...I'm so dead. I couldn't get them even after he told me the attributes.' Nox frowned.

" Okay. Take this fat-ass and throw both of them in the cells under the mansion."

Carseain was satisfied.

'Last time (in the memories), they all got away. It seems telling the attributes helped him.'

"As you command"

'Whoa...I got out safe.' Nox let out a sigh of relief.

Carseain put his sword back into the scabbard. He had almost demolished the top floor and the sitting room. The guards were busily trying to reduce the confusion and chaos.

Carseain was ready to head back to the mansion. While boarding the carriage he notices the heavily crowded Front Street.

"Rovenin, they are? "

"They are the people who worked here. We evacuated them beforehand to safety as we were expecting a man-made disaster."

"It was just the top floor though. You didn't have to evacuate the whole building."

"It's better to be safe than sorry. Although, even I didn't expect you to hold back that much."

"This is pissing me off so much."

Carseain let it go.

'Most of them look like commoners. It's hard for them to even get by in this era, especially those who didn't even receive an education. The smallest actions of those in power have a drastic effect on their daily lives of them. I am forced to realize, my actions are responsible for the livelihoods of people.'

"Rovenin, stop the carriage and gather all the employees of this company. I have an announcement."

"As you command" and Rovenin went off following his orders.

...

"Voice Amplification", Rovenin cast a spell. A small magic circle was created and it floated towards Carseain. As soon as Carseain held it, yellow light started emanating.

"The spell has successfully connected to your voice. Please speak through it."

' A magical mic' Carseain thought.

" Ahem...the foolish head of your company dared to swindle the Esselgardes. So, his head will be flying very soon as we also have found definite proof. A thorough investigation will be conducted very soon officially."

Nox was a little confused. All of this would be conveyed through a notice later. There was no need for him to say that himself. However, Rovenin had a faint smile crossing his lips. Nox wondered if he knew anything.
