Jennifer Carlysle was laying flat on her stomach on her best friend, Claire Thompson's bed with the poofy purple covers, paging through one of her SEVENTEEN magazines while waiting for Claire to finish brushing her teeth...
"Why don't they write about REAL stuff? Like how to fill in a Deposit Slip, or how to pass BioChem??? All I seem to find in this is make-up tutorials and what kind of shoes to wear with what colour tights at certain times of the day... SOOO BOOORIIING!!!" Jenna whined.
Claire laughed her bubbly laugh and answered the question: "It's only boring to you because you've never been one for fashion trends, Jenna."
Claire leaned in through the doorway of their en suite bathroom and pointed towards her dressing table with the lightbulbs all around the mirror - kind of like the one in those famous Marilyn Monroe pictures - and said "If you're interested, the latest COSMO issue is over there. They have a juicy 'Sexposé' article in it, with the details on al do's and the do, do, do!!!'s."
She then winked at Jenna, already knowing that her face would be covered in a crimson blush at the mere mention of the 'S' subject. "Ehw, ehw, ehw! TMI!!!" Jenna exclaimed, a little freaked out, and Claire burst out in a fresh fit of laughter...
"Oh COME ON, Jenna! You need the know-how at least!!!" Claire stated, trying to pull a straight face, barely containing her laugh. "NOT funny!!!" Jenna accused, close to laughter herself...
"Oh, you're right," Claire agreed "it's not funny, it's downright hilarious!!! You should've seen your expression!"
Jenna smiled "Well would you look at that! I turn out to be better entertainment than most comedians..." she stated sarcastically.
"Come on, babe. You know I love you. And there's nothing wrong with innocence... I admire you for it, and I think you're awesome for not just saying 'yes' and 'Amen' to the first guy that shows just the slightest bit of interest in you." Claire praised.
Claire has a date with Ethan Drake, her and Jenna's best guy friend, tonight. They've been looking at each other with googly eyes since the three of them started hanging out together in Primary school. It's been obvious to everyone - except themselves, of course - and Jenna had to convince them that she has NO problem with them dating at all!
Claire was still hesitant, she didn't want to hurt Jenna... They've been friends for longer than either of them could remember, and being roommates would suck if they didn't get along.
Jenna got caught up in her own thoughts as she watched Claire straighten through layer upon layer of silky Brunette locks. She took her own Redheaded mane between her fingers and wondered for a moment why some girls are born so lucky while others get the scrawny builds and need to work for hours to look sophisticated...
"... sure you will be okay on your own?" Claire asked, catching Jenna off-guard. "Yes! I'm sure babe. I am actually looking forward to finishing a book on that app I downloaded last week..." Jenna said, and Claire nodded "Wattpad, right?"
"Yes," Jenna agreed "I started reading Follow Me Back written by A.V. Geiger and I simply can't stop!!! Eric Thorn, who's this super huge mega star, DM's this girl, Tessa Hart, from a fake account on Twitter and goes off at her for, like no reason, and she replies with 'Be kind, always. Everyone you meet is fighting a battle' and then she falls for him, and he arranges to meet her, but she goes off with the stalker she's been hiding from, thinking it's Eric, and I still need to read further!"
"Ooh that sounds good!" Claire said enthusiastically "But hun, you need to get out more... Like to a movie, or a club... Otherwise you won't meet any guys... I don't want you to be lonely and all these stories about psychos and stalkers can't be healthy! You know how easily you get freaked out..."
"Stop worrying now, or you won't be ready when Ethan gets here!!! If it would set your mind at ease, I'll try getting hold of Lauren, maybe watch a movie and get some Chinese" Jenna replied and Claire held a thumb up.
Jenna switched on the TV and started flipping through the channels to see what movies would be showing tonight when a picture on the CNN channel caught her attention. She flipped back to CNN and listened to the broadcaster.
"... according to the Chief of 9th Precinct, the body of a teenage Caucasian female has been found facedown in a river about 5 miles from Oakfields College. The female has been identified as Jordan Theresa Bailey, who has been a student at Oakfields College for the past three years."
"There has also been a missing persons file opened for Cassidy Morgan, who attends Oakfields College as well and was last seen on Thursday evening at home, before going out to a local bar of which the name and location is yet unknown. The police have not yet discovered any leads on either case but believe the suspect to be male. They are calling on the public to come forward with any information they might have, and ask all female students to be cautious and to not go out alone..."
Jenna didn't hear Claire coming closer to her and was startled when she sobbed right next to the bed. She couldn't believe what she just saw and flipped to another news channel, where exactly the same pictures were on display. She continued flipping through various channels, but all of them displayed pictures of the same two girls during better days, and all were titled exactly the same...
