Chapter 2 - Why not?

In the midst of the silence and the the oppressive, all engulfing depths of nothing.. There was a booming laughter that could be heard and Noah, who was unaware of anything, was having his life gradually sifted through by the unknown entities amidst continuous chuckling.

"I told you! Hahaha I told you from the start that he wouldn't have a chance" An ordinary looking middle age man with deep, void like eyes. In fact if you look closely all you can see are flickering shadows dancing behind his eyelids.

"My friend. How can someone who can see so much, miss what is right in front of your eyes? Take a look at this.."

The old man with an old school sun hat and fishing gear chuckles whilst looking at a holograph of Noah's life path. Moving backwards from now to his birth. The 'movie' slowed over many different moment. Some important, some less so.

" what are you trying to show me old man? Out of all the others no one else can see more than me apart from you.. what is so interesting about this human?..but wait.."

Seeing his friend had caught on the old fisherman finally spoke his meaning. "What i am showing you are all the moments that should have been, but he seems to miss his slice of fate every time. Look, here.. he was moments away from catching his wife and friend. Here he was actually accepted into the army but his admittance letter got lost. Here he misses out on a scholarship only because his matron decides to save the postage. Do you get it?"

"Yes… I can see it now, over the corse of his life he was always the wrong side of fate, but he still achieved a lot considering.."

"Exactly! Can you imagine how much more interesting he could have been if he were born with even an ordinary amount of luck?!"

The middle aged man nodded in agreement but then with a pensive look asked "but why waste one of your only throws on him? So far out of your 5 rolls 3 have already proven a waste and the other one is just as unlikely to make any impact!"

"My friend.. I have played and won this game more than any other, but you know what I decided after that last catastrophe? I realised that it's so much more fun to watch when they are the underdog…so I decided to just take a punt and see what happens. It's not like it'll make that much of a difference in the end, I mean this is my last game after all.. so why not go for broke and see that if with a little more fate in his deck he can make an impact on the board as a whole…"
