Chapter 41 - Teeth in the Darkness

Lagertha's anger and fury were hotter than the desert itself, and her strength was still as strong as her father's. She carried the demon's head and made Mundis inspect it for a long time. Lagertha wanted her mighty foe to feel the same torment she is going through. She slowly walked to him with the demon's head in her right hand and her longsword on the other. Both of her hands were stained with demonic blood, and her face appeared as if Death itself was ready to claim the souls of her foes.

"I will finish you, demon. I will take your soul and feed you back to your lord and master," Lagertha hissed. Her rage was enough to make her opponents hear her name and tremble at the sound.

"Very well. But please, put up more of a fight than your boyfriend did," Mundis said. The Wolf Queen's face was filled with fiery anger and a temper so hot that no living thing would compare to her wrathful vengeance.

With all the fury in her body, Lagertha roars, and she dashes to the sorcerer demon as the full moon still shines in the dark. She ran with her longsword in her left hand and got ready to throw the decapitated head at her opponent. As she threw the massive head, she could see the blood splatter out and end up on both the walls and the road. She no longer cared about what would happen if she cannot win the onslaught. She only cared about protecting Brant and keeping him away from whoever stands in her path.

Lagertha makes the decapitated head stuck to Mundis's greatsword, yet he could slice the head in half. She did not expect the dark creature to kill whatever was left of his kind. Her longsword meets with Mundis's greatsword, and they both began clashing at each other. The Wolf Queen angrily swung her blade to make her mighty opponent taste no victory. She swung her weapon at the sorcerer demon and did not back away from what might happen.

As a human, Mundis appeared as a man who walked the night and harvested souls to be entrapped in his magic. Every powerful man and creature who served Mephiles became worthy to wield dark magic for themselves. Lagertha swung her longsword in more of a raging manner than Mundis did; she despised her foes more than she ever could. The Wolf Queen fought for her best friend and herself because nobody was left for her to live with. They both swung their weapons, and they were both hoping their swords would leave an open wound on either of their bodies.

Mundis had nobody left to summon because Lagertha killed every single servant that stood with the sorcerer beast. Lagertha was too angry to care about what would happen to the ones she swore to protect. She quickly and violently swung her blade against the powerful beast, who could turn into a man with dark clothing. Neither of them backed away from the mighty parries and fatal blows they will cast on each other. Mundis tries to step aside from the blows he thought he could not dodge, but Lagertha did not give him a chance.

Eventually, Mundis grew tired of swinging his blade so many times and became exhausted from defending himself. Yet he knew it would be a fool's fate to dishonor his king and understood the punishment for running away. Lagertha got the upper hand and started slashing the dark man's body with so much rage. The anger that took over her soul was the one thing that kept her from the point of death. And with that fiery rage, Lagertha delivers a fatal blow on Mundis's chest and makes him feel the awful pain.

The Wolf Queen would make all of her enemies tremble before her and make them all regret their decisions. It was a lesson Julius of Romania taught himself before he succumbed to the darkness. Lagertha removes her longsword from the man's chest and begins punching him in the face. She pinned him to the floor and started giving him punches he would feel for a long time. She punched him in the face, on the nose, and delivered a few punches to his chest.

"You will pay for what you've done! Your king will pay! All of you will pay... with your blood!" Lagertha shouted. She never had the pleasure of granting him mercy before killing him and sending him back to his god.

She roared, screamed, and yelled at the top of her lungs as her fiery temper took control of her soul. She made sure that every building in the city heard her screams and learned not to mess with her. Lagertha makes sure that she stains the floor with blood and gore because of how much torment she was put through. Brant did not take another step because of how much of a beating he received from the sorcerer beast.

"You... you will be betrayed, queen of the wolves. You... have nothing left... but your death," Mundis said. He started coughing up a lot of blood after receiving so many scars on his face and chest.

"I will never submit to you, your king, nor your god. You will know and fear the power I hold inside of me. Your presence creates a disturbance on Earth. And I will see that when you are sent back to Hell, you will tell your god that I have sent you!" Lagertha said. She pulls her sword close to her, and she has her face gets closer to Mundis's face as the night is still pushing on.

Lagertha wanted her appearance to be the last thing Mundis will ever see before she sends him back to wherever he came from.

"I know... who you are. I know... what you are. Your death is certain! You... will die!" Mundis shouted. Lagertha held her longsword in one hand and started choking the life out of the dark man with her other hand.

She places her foot on Mundis's chest so that he does not escape her wrath, and her face contacts the defenseless creature.

Then Lagertha said to him, "I am a demon slayer. I hunt down those who serve the night. I bring death to all who bring poison and destruction to my people. I am the teeth in the darkness. The talons in the night. Mine is strength, lust, and power! I am Lagertha, the Wolf Queen!"

As she said this, Lagertha uses her longsword and stabs Mundis in the throat, and she slices off the rest of his head. She makes the head roll away from the body after being severed from its shoulders. And so, the fight between Lagertha and Mundis ended, and the Wolf Queen undoubtedly won the fight after her sword became too powerful against the creature. The creature could turn into a man and Lagertha's longsword could penetrate his flesh and shatter his bones. It was one of many lies that were told to her before she fought the sorcerer beast.

Lagertha simply relied on her tactics and skills to win the fight against the creature who wielded dark magic. Then she slowly turned around and noticed that Brant was still lying on the floor, and seemed like he would never wake up. Because of how much strength she used against Mundis, Lagertha could not go as fast as she used to. She strolls to the young hunter to see if he is alive and hopes that she did not lead him to his demise. Lagertha never felt so much fear enter her mind after killing a creature of darkness.

Lagertha held onto her longsword and noticed that Brant had the scabbard on his side, and she knew he kept his word. Then she stood in front of him as he laid on the floor with no chance of regaining his strength. Instead of having vile anger and contempt, Lagertha started feeling depressed for her best friend. She kneels to him and takes back her scabbard, and she places it back on her side. The Wolf Queen loved Brant, yet she did not tell him because she did not feel ready at the moment.

"You fought for me, didn't you? You wanted to protect me because you thought I would endanger myself, is that right? You didn't want me to put my life at risk for your sake. Is that what you had in mind?" Lagertha asked. Brant could not give her an answer; his eyes were still closed, yet he did not have the strength to speak.

Lagertha kneels to Brant and lays her head on his chest to see if he is still breathing. Thankfully, he is still alive, yet he had much to discuss with Lagertha before they could leave the city.
