Vorus held the body of his fallen subordinates as the memories of their time together flashed through his aching heart.
Eight years ago... the trio were merely kids of servants that served at the commander's castle.
They were the only children in the castle as they were allowed to live there with their parents due to a rule that permits the maids and servants of the castle to live within the servant section with their families for as long as they work there.
The district commander then was a ruthless and wicked tyrant who bullies the servants and everyone else in the district. He collected taxes even though all district commanders receive a hefty grant from the king every month.
One day...
"Who dares steal from Fuu the great!?"
The castle was caught in an uproar as someone had stolen a ring under the possession of the commander.
He ordered for all the servants to be brought to him.
"One of you peasants has taken something valuable from me. I'm sure the rest of you are all innocent so I'll be willing to look the other way if the perpetrator is offered to me with my ring."
He paced across the palace section of the castle as he addresses the servants who were all on their knees.
Cain, Vidal, and Ruth were peeking through a door as the events unfold.
In the end, the thief and the item were not found and the commander ordered their execution then and there.
"Mommy! Daddy!"
"Mom!"
"Papa!"
The little children watched as their parents were beheaded.
As a way to show how "merciful" he was, he allowed the children to stay in the castle as long as they serve him as his parents did.
Not a week had passed since the incident and a man arrived at the district. He was wearing pants that had the pattern of a tiger's skin and were carrying a giant club around his neck.
"I, the man, Vorus have come to challenge the district commander here for his post."
The day he arrived at Kondo, he challenged the then district commander to a battle for the position of district commander and won.
Fuu was exiled from the city never to show his face again and the children rejoiced upon seeing the man who unjustly murdered their parents being punished.
"Uhm..."
Cain tugged at Vorus's pants to draw his attention.
"What is it, young man?"
The three children went on their knees bawling as they hugged his legs.
"You might not know what you've done for us but, thank you for beating that horrible man."
He managed to calm them down as they told him about the incidents that transpired before his arrival.
'These children remind me of myself and Vinicius.'
"Come, I'll take you three under my wing, not as servants but as my subordinates."
"Conroy... Conroy!"
It was Ace that was calling out to his companion after the latter fired the arrows that freed Vorus's subordinates.
The archer had entered a brief trance due to the shock of the current Revelation.
The woman who saved him from a life of slavery, fed him, cleaned him, and made him her closest personal. The woman who's everything to him, and taught him everything he knows was killed brutally.
The guards said that her head was cut off and kept alongside the heads of the other district commanders in a sort of trophy case.
It was only the head of Cain that was spared he was deemed not worthy to be regarded as Vorus's replacement and was met with a different fate nonetheless faced a terrible death as well.
"Conroy!!"
Conroy snapped out of the trance and looked at Vorus who was crying as he hugged the bodies of his fallen subordinates.
"That's right... He has it worse." He muttered in a low voice.
He wiped off his tears and faced his captain.
Ace summoned his shadow daggers.
"Didn't you hear me! Conroy! Vorus!"
Vorus seized his tears and gently laid the three corpses to rest before getting back up.
"I'm sorry, I failed you three as a man... And a friend."
He summoned his hammer with a mighty thunderbolt.
Conroy followed suit with his archer and Reginal as well with his sword.
"Aegis!.... ATTACK!!"
Immediately the soldiers heard this, they all gathered around the crew and pulled out their weapons. Ranging from swords to guns, cannons, spears, and maces. There were also relic users amongst them.
Though the minorities were the relic users and the highest grade in their possession was C-grade.
Relics C-Grade and below were all either weapon or accessory relics and could be easily destroyed.
Maggie screeched a little as she began sweating excessively and lost her balance due to the constant shaking of her legs.
"They're so many..." She said as she bows her head down signaling her acceptance of defeat.
"Yet, what they're about to go through, won't be enough to balance the scale for what they did to my friends."
Not counting the guards that passed away when Ace used his aura burst, it was a four versus four hundred situation and yet he was talking like that.
"I knew this already, but they're insane! Even if they're all relic users. The enemy also has a few relics as well."
Maggie has seen firsthand the strengths of her clanmates. But to her, fighting a hundred mindless relic beasts will be different than fighting four hundred human warriors.
How wrong was she...
"Ahh!"
"So, strong!"
"P-please! Mercy!"
One by one, the soldiers were brutally knocked out. Some had their body parts severed by Ace, while others were impaled by Reginald. None of the guards were killed however they helplessly received crippling damages.
The unlucky ones were burnt by Vorus's electric techniques and Conroy's fire arrows.
Five minutes... That was how long four hundred men fell to four beasts.
Maggie couldn't believe her eyes. She was disgusted and amazed at the pure showcase of power from the four. Most importantly, she was scared.
'They're monsters... All of them, Maggie what sort of people did you team up with?'
It was a completely one-sided battle.
Driven by pure rage and their hunger for revenge, the Aegis clan decimated all of Rada Khan's forces in Kondo.
The last of the enemy struggled to use his comms to send a distress message to the base in Regrah, he didn't know who most of these bunch were but one thing was certain...
Their new King had started a war with monsters.
