After Gaia and the others encountered the giant wolf, the relevant information relayed back to the data processing center on Planet Azure.
The researchers had analyzed the data collected on the giant wolf.
Since Gaia and the others did not manage to obtain the carcass of the giant wolves, the data analyzed was not sufficient.
The only they could confirm was that its skin and muscles were very tough and that it had extremely high survivability. In fact, even if its brain got smashed, it could still survive for a few more minutes.
Its skin was very tough. Ordinary rifles and submachine guns would not be able to penetrate it. In fact, the skin was actually quite flexible, thus they do actually not take much damage from impact.
Additionally, its claws were extremely hard and sharp, being comparable to steel blades.
From the encounter, the shield that William had only been scratched by the giant wolf once, but it was almost torn in half.
William's shield was nothing to scoff at, it was made of a special alloy that was harder than steel.
...
"Ratatata!"
The mounted machine guns on the steel wall started firing continuously, as flaming hot lead rained down on the giant wolf.
Unfortunately did not manage to penetrate the wolf's body. The bullets were deflected off of its fur into the ground.
"This monster's is as tough as the reports say. Machine gunner aim for its waist!" The commander yelled.
According to the analysis, the giant wolf's weakness should be its waist. Just like the wolves of their homeworld, they had a sturdy head but a weak waist.
Shooting them there could effectively restrict its mobility.
Therefore, the mounted machine guns all started firing at the giant wolf's waist.
"Bam!" One of the wolves rushed past the rain of bullets and slammed itself onto the steel walls.
"Clank!" Its steel claws slashed at the steel gate.
A deep scratch mark suddenly appeared on the gates.
Then, the giant wolf was knocked down by countless shots of machine gun rounds straight to the head.
"Let me do it! Your accuracy sucks!" Brad was a little short-tempered. He just pushed one of the soldiers out of the way and got onto the mounted machine gun.
He held the gun tightly with both hands as he held down the trigger.
"Ratatatatata!"
The giant wolf was immediately shredded into pieces.
However, there were still more giant wolves charging over. The troops could not tell how many of them there were in the darkness of the night.
Gaia and the others could not light up the flares. They could only use the lights on the steel walls to get a vague idea of where to aim.
Once one giant wolf got killed, more continued to charge up.
Fortunately, the steel walls were very tall. In fact, even if the giant wolf jumped with all its strength, it would not be able to reach the people stationed on top.
This made the soldiers slightly relieved, allowing them to focus more on hitting the giant wolves below the steel walls.
When the giant wolves saw that they could not reach the people above, they started to scratch the wall in rage.
Deep claw marks were left on the steel wall. Under the claws of the giant wolves, the steel wall felt like it was made of putty.
Hearing the gunfire, Philip rushed over anxiously.
"How's the situation? Can we manage?"Philip asked.
Gaia nodded, "Luckily, the walls were built with sufficient height. The giant wolves aren't able to jump over it. Otherwise, we'd be in big trouble."
Philip nodded. When the base was to be expanded tomorrow and more soldiers are brought in, it would probably relieve some of the pressure they are feeling right now.
"By the way..." Philip looked at Gaia earnestly, "If there is an emergency, you have to retreat. You are our most precious resource right now, we can't sacrifice you here."
"If things get too dire, I'll go back," Gaia said as he picked up a rocket launcher. Placing it on his shoulder, he found an empty spot and squatted on the ground, observing the wolves soaking up the machinegun fire.
The belly of the giant wolf was also one of their weaknesses. Although the skin on their bellies was very tough, it was also very close to their organs.
Using the rocket launcher, Gaia got a direct hit on its belly, and the impact dealing significant damage to the organs of the giant wolf.
Once the organs of the giant wolf ruptured, it would only take a couple of minutes for it to die from internal bleeding.
The giant wolf howled in pain before dropping dead on the ground.
"Points + 5"
A notification alert rang out in Gaia's mind.
"Eh?"Gaia was a little surprised. Killing this monster gave him 5 whole points.
Earlier today, he had only earned 20 points for killing an entire swarm of bugs. Now, killing a single giant wolf had netted him 5 points. It was really quite profitable.
"Rocket launchers are really the best. Just a couple shots of this bad boy would be enough to deal with these giant wolves." Seeing how Gaia managed to kill the wolf with the rocket launcher in a single hit., he also picked up a rocket launcher and joined the fray.
A grin appeared on Gaia's face. When he was reloading the rocket launcher, he opened the system and took a look.
Everything else had remained the same, but his points had increased to 70 points.
Gaia was a little excited.
When his reaches 100 points, he could unlock the System Shop. At that time, he would be able to increase his potential.
Looking at the giant wolves that were stuck outside, Gaia got a little restless.
"It would be great if I can just kill all the giant wolves in one go," Gaia thought.
Unfortunately, the artillery cannons, howitzers, and other heavy weapons had still not been brought over. Otherwise, he would teach these giant wolves a lesson.
"Kerry, can you let me try out your sniper rifle?" Gaia hollered at Kerry and pointed at the sniper rifle under his feet.
"Do you know how to use a sniper rifle? The recoil of this rifle is very strong. Be careful not to break your collarbone." Kerry was a little hesitant. Sniper rifles were something that only trained professionals could use.
"Don't worry, I know how to use it," Gaia said.
Kerry looked at him and then at the giant wolves that were slowly losing steam. He turned his head to look at Philip. As Philip nodded, Kerry agreed to Gaia's request.
"Alright, if there's anything you don't know, feel free to ask me."
Gaia picked up the FCL-543 high-caliber sniper rifle and carefully examined its structure.
He found a good position and went prone, pressing the bump stock of the rifle against his shoulder.
He aimed for a giant wolf's nose.
With a pull of the trigger, he fired.
"Bang!"
The bullet pierced a big hole through the giant wolf's nose, causing blood to flow out.
However, the giant wolf did not seem to care at all. It charged a few meters against the torrent of bullets before finally dropping down.
"These guys are really not afraid of death. It's almost like they've all went berserk," Kerry exclaimed.
When Gaia heard this, a thought popped into his mind. Thinking back to the intelligent behavior of the giant wolves he encountered earlier, he noticed the difference between the two wolf packs' behaviors.
This pack of wolves was obviously much crazier. The giant wolves that he had encountered before were all ran away with their tails between their legs after being hit by a rocket.
These wolves seemed like they had gone mad, they had no fear of death at all.
