I stared, deep in thought out my bedroom window at the street lights as they slowly began to switch on, one after the other while the shadow from the setting sun chased them down the street. It always amazed me how the holidays would go by so quickly, it felt like just yesterday that my friends and I were celebrating the final bell announcing the beginning of our Christmas break, and already here I was, packing new text books and stationary into my bag, anxiously anticipating my first day of high school tomorrow. It had been such an amazing holiday, days spent at the beach, outings at night to movies and dinners with my family and friends â separately of course! a Christmas filled with love and laughter and the best ever homemade feast and I had finally gotten the iPhone I have wanted for as long as I can remember, granted it was the first iPhone that had ever been manufactured, so it was probably about as out dated as the number of years I had wanted it, but I know that it must have taken my parents more than a long while to save up for such an expensive gift, you see, my father works two jobs, a car mechanic by day and a workshop shift supervisor by night, my mother also works long hours at the local Police Station as the Personal Assistant to the Sheriff, so out dated or not I still revel in the joy of knowing that I will no longer be the only kid in school without a phone, or "lifeline'' as my best friend Parker calls it. I had missed Parker terribly over these past few weeks, her family had taken her to Bali for the holidays and it feels like it has been at least a year since I last saw her. For that reason alone I could not wait for the new school year to begin. Thankfully our parents had agreed to send us to the same High School, Parkers family were fairly well off financially so she could have gone to any school in or out of the country, but we had been best friends since the first grade and our parents knew better than to separate us now, especially since the nearest high school my parents could afford was over five hundred miles from our small insignificant town, I had never heard of the school but both of our parents assured us that it was a wonderful school filled with adventure, and they were certain that it was the best choice for us both, we didn't complain because quite honestly we never cared much for school, all we cared about was whether or not we would be together, I mean, who would we have if we couldn't have each other?
