Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 Daro’s Parents Deal and Dantriael

Daro sleeps for an hour before she jolts awake. She is sitting up and panting, sweat dripping down her face. "You ok...?" says Julian in her subconscious. Marek comes from library from inside the void and slightly concerned and goes to check on Daro.

"It was a nightmare..." she moves her hair out of her face. "This-this is part of the reason why-" begins to explain Daro to Julian.

"Yes, now I know it was my mistake Daro" says Julian.

"No, not that. I don't enter the dream state anymore because of nightmares."

"Oh" says Julian.

"I just wish it stopped but it wont" she looked teary.

"We can find a way for it to stop" reassures Julian. Daro lays back down and on her side to go into her subconscious while Jack was still asleep. Marek goes back into the subconscious library and brings a book towards Daro and then walks back out.

"This should help. I don't know much about the human subconscious. I'm not exactly a human." He opens the book and reads something. "Either way, I don't sleep so I don't know the subconscious." say Marek.  Julian makes himself a room and goes inside it. Marek tries something from a different part of the book with hand on Daro's chest. She blushes lightly from the contact of his hand on her chest and pushes it aside. A light glows under his hand and ripples over her body in an almost healing motion, she watches in fascination. Daro's eyes lit up. She gasps in interest, having the desire to want to learn the spell. The light fades as it sinks in.

"That should help ease those nightmares. Follow me. I have collected many books in my time, you're welcome in my library." Daro gets up from the recliner and walk with Marek to his library.

"How many books did you collect?" she says while seeing whats going on and looks away, groaning in pain.

There was a huge wrap around library with shelves on shelves of books. "Any I take interest in, mostly powerful ones. It helps pass the time while I'm here."

"But...wouldn't you ever want to learn some less powerful spells or no?" She looked confused as to why he only collects powerful spells.

He closed and released a book in his hand as it floats back to its place. "I have those too. I'm a demon, I don't really need these books. Think of them as my knowledge." Daro nods and still confused. Walking over to a shelf and brushing her fingers against the spines of the books and looking at each one carefully.

"One may think these books are in the wrong hands, being me. Collecting them has kept the knowledge out of reckless humans and worse hands, such as my parents."

"Your...parents?"

"The two you three unfortunately meet. Darkness and Farrow. I rule the abyss here but those two showed up."

"Oh. Has there ever been a time when one of your spells went wrong?" wondered Daro.

"Hm. Not that I remember, doesn't mean they can't…especially if one syllable is said incorrectly." She nods understanding. She looks down in thought. Julian leaves Daro's mind and lays on the bed in the next room which they got not long after Jack. Thankfully because of luck of someone leaving. Daro walks around examining the books until a question pops into her head making her stop in her tracks.

"So, what made you want to help me?"

"Mainly, two-way advantage. One: That stubborn ox! Would blame me for your death and chase me more. Two: To have a place we he can't touch me."

"I can see why you needed a place to hide." Daro giggles.

Marek rolls his eyes and smirked. "You should check his case against me. I think you'll find it lacking in evidence and witness. The one witness said they saw a "dark shadow" that night, but the deal was, I would come to the child when they turned age five."

"I see." she looks at the books again before stopping to find a book about her parents and pulls it off the shelf and stares at the cover.

"They're entire lives also possibly personal reasons for their deal and death. It appears in the making of or after a deal is made."

"I still don't understand why they did it." tears begin to well up in her eyes. Marek snaps fingers and book opens to chapters about them. He reads the chapter titles before flipping through the pages and landing where she wanted and reads the chapter slowly, wanting to take in each word in carefully.

"I'll leave you to it" he turns to leave. After about thirty minutes of reading the chapter, tears started flowing down her face making her sit on the floor and curling up in despair, she buries her head in her arms, crying softly. Marek hears her cries and thinking she might still blame him, I don't enter. Sighs. She continues crying, not caring if he could hear her. She eventually calms down, a few stray tears escaping as I get off the ground and shut the book, placing it back where I had originally found it and stares at the spine of the book, spacing out.

Marek creates couch and sits down with a glass of Jack Daniels. She sighs after a while, pulling myself away from the bookshelf and walking out of the library

"HI! CAN WE WATCH TV?" she jumps coming out from the subconscious to see Alex, Jack's son speaking too her. She tousled his hair and turns on the television for him to watch. His child like innocence's was refreshing to her adult eyes, her expression softens. She sits on the opposite side of the couch, keeping her back towards the arm of the couch. Some stray tears still escape as I look down slightly

"Hello, Daro. Why are you sad?" he turns, one eye milky white like the mimics. She doesn't answer. She was still trying to take in the information she had read about her parents' deal. She leans her head against the back of the couch. She speaks in her subconscious once again.

"I finally understand why parents made that deal."

"MMM..." Marek listens to her.

"They did it to protect me. But what were they protecting me from? That's something I'm not understanding. It didn't say in the book what they were protecting me from." Mare shrugs and pulls out his personal deal book, flipping through several times. She watches him flipping through the pages of his deal book.

"Something isn't right…details, all about details. Should be somewhere here…" Daro looks at him confused. "Did I not? Hmmm" he skims through the fine print and other pages of the book.

"What?" she pulls blankets tightly around self and bites on shirt and scoots little closer to get a look at his book over his shoulder.

"If they protected you from something it should be written, It wasn't on the deal page and I'm not seeing it here." He looks more carefully at next page after ripped out the page and then he notices that a page is missing. "The one mission is the deal page I gave you." Marek sighs and snaps book shut. "I do remember talking to them about it."

"What did they say?" asked Daro curiously.

"I can't exactly remember." He goes back to that day as the voic shifts and puts us there. "This is a bit weird seeing myself. You can't interact, it is like a hologram." She nods and watches the scene of what happened unfold before her very eyes. Daro begins listening to the conversation being made between her.

Memory- Samantha and John: "Please...we know what you can do, that's why we called. She's special to us, we just want to protect her."

Marek: "from what? Can't you do it, you know I'm terribly busy and don't have time look after one certain child."

S & J: "You won't have to, just make her hidden from the one chasing us. Please!"

Marek: He cocks his head, interested. "What have you gotten involved in to be chased?"

John: That's not important right now, I'll pay the debt even with my life...just protect her from" he whimpers. "Dantriael."

Marek: His eyes widen "Him?! You're LUCKY you've survived THIS long! I'll help, but you know what must be done." He holds out the deal paper as the void shifts back.

Daro's eyes widen in shock, horror, and confusion after hearing my father saying the name 'Dantriael' "Who's Dantriael?!"

Marek makes a low rumbling growl as I bristle. "A demon, more powerful and higher ranking than me. He makes deals just the same, but more dangerous dealing in necromancy, gifting power, and other much darker craft at higher prices." She begins to panic as it rises, she begins thinking about it. "But what does he want from me?

Marek's eyes narrow in thought. "Whatever they got involved in, he wanted you dead to make them suffer for his own personal gain. What did I do to make you hidden?" he gets up to go to library. She shrugs, shaking her head and follows him.

"Outside of here, in physical form, I'm able to just make things happen. In here, I have my library." He finds a shelf on demons and everything involving them revenge, payment, enjoyment. "No one knows with him, why he does what he does."

"Oh." That was all she could muster too say as she runs her finger along books and stops at one, it drew her too it in an instant it seemed. She pulls it off and flips through it and stands by another set of books, watching Marek from afar.

"Ahh...that's why he couldn't keep his end and I took him, apologies. What I did is engrained into you, encoded into your DNA." He looks over things. " What it is...is you can hide your DNA, now...camouflaging it as like any demons."

"Wait, what?" Daro had a surprised and confused expression upon her face.

"That day, I turned my hand into spirit form and reached into you. What came forth was this. After that, you've always had the ability without knowing. We have higher senses so some can smell your blood and know what you are, with practice, you can camouflage your blood without changing you."

"So you changed my blood?" she begins panicking and feeling anxious about everything he said.

"Not changed...just added to your DNA. You are still you...it hasn't affected or stopped you before. Basically, added a new ability." he shuts the book and puts it back onto his shelf. Daro looks down, thinking deeply.

'Does that explain why I can cast spells?"

"It could...the second I remove the ability; he WILL find you. None of you are prepared enough for him."

She nods, concerned about what all was told her. "I'd rather not meet him, then. So when you said that you added to my DNA, are you saying that a part of you is in me?"

Marek clears his throat. "Yes and no. The smallest trace after I reached in that link long since faded and is gone. It may have taken...a drop...of blood...as soon as I heard the name, it was going to be the strongest and best way to hide you. There is no link between us from that." He explained too her.

"I-I guess that makes sense then." She looks away and walks to a chair that sat in a corner, sitting in it to think and process everything.
