Chapter 1 - The Green Ambassadors: The Chibok Girls Are Back!

Chapter One

The Distress Call

The Green Ambassadors lives in a comfortably furnished school hostel. The house was built separately by the government. Their protege, Major Dami also lives with them temporarily. As his protegees, he had vowed to look after them.

Major Dami often remembered his bitter past life. He had every trouble growing up as a child.

Being poor, his parents made things even more difficult for him having to hawk food items in the streets. His dogged determination to succeed in spite of all odds had paid off very well.

He could remembered, while in the University, the several nights he walked to the library to study with empty stomach, and worst still, empty pockets.

But after winning scholarship to study Military intelligence in the United State as the best student from The Nigeria Military Advancement Academy, this had quickly brought a turnaround in his fortune.

And just as he was settling down his family to enjoy this consolidation, misfortune struck.

One night, while he was away in one of his foreign assignments, a bomb went off and blew down his home leaving him with nothing. No wife, no children and no family.

It was believed that he was the target of the attack.

After this heart renting and unfortunate events, major Dami devoted all his life to his work and fighting crime, believing the dead of his family members must not be in vain. No wonder, he was adjudged, the best international agent in the world.

His quest, to conquer the yet-to be conquered, pushed him to achieved every single goal he has set for himself.

His efforts over The Green Ambassadors were his greatest motivations now.

And seeing 'The Green Ambassadors' tremendous progress gives him the greatest joy of accomplishment.

The Green Ambassadors may never remember their painful past. And do they really care to know?, they often told themselves, as much as major Dami was always there for them, he's everything to them.

Presently, The Green Ambassadors sat down in the large living room watching their favorite T.V Show. To them, they are member of one big family and major Dami is their "Father"

Major Dami had traveled out of town, which means [plenty of time to catch up with all missed fun. As they all sat down, preparing to savor their favorite TV show, Wuraola walked in clutching a pack of crackers in one hand.

"Hello guys, care for some?" She said in between mouthfuls.

"At the rate you are gulping down sugar, I hope you don't go down with Diabetes", El-Kanemi, the-rubber-boy said jokingly and put out his hand for some.

"What's on tonight?" she said nodding her head at the T.V set, asking no one in particular.

"Of course, we've got lined up for tonight; Terry and the Old Witches, The Whiz-Kids show, there are lots of cartoon shows too", Taribo answered and sat down next to El-Kanemi, the-rubber-boy.

The Green Ambassadors settled down for the night and by the time they were through the third show, they began to show signs of exhaustion.

Kelechi began to speak, "Too much of everything, as the saying goes…"

… Is bad", added Amina the northern Amazon.

"I guess I've watched enough, I'm hungry and I'm off to get something to eat", he finally said.

"Me too" Wuraola, the-wild-western-thunder-bolt added. She almost never turned down an opportunity to eat.

Few minutes later, the six hero kids were in the kitchen preparing their favorite meal of boil rice, fried plantain and chicken.

It was few minutes past six by the time The Green Ambassadors had finished eating their meal. And as they sat down to relax after their meal the telephone on the table rang jolting them into attention.

The six heroes threw quick glances at one another and then fixed their gazes on the table phone.

Taribo was the first to respond, the rest not wanting to respond to a call that would pull them out of their temporal holiday. And as Taribo walked towards the phone, he muttered, "I have the hunch it's the major", he said.

"When has your hunch ever comes true?" Already sleepy, Wuraola asked lazily.

"Hey kids. Get your acts together, from tonight, you've got a special assignment, the scourge of terrorism is fast ravaging north eastern Nigeria.

A group of school girls numbering 276 have been abducted from their school's hostel. The girls where about is yet unknown but intelligence reports said the girls probably have been trafficked or on their way out of the country.

In line with this the special force-the best from the detachment of the Nigeria army, air force and the navy and off course The Green Ambassadors so far, has been assembled to counter the insurgency.

The military regiment will provide you the ground and air back up; you will go in as the special force to rescue the girls.

This is a special operation!

Nigerians and the world community are banking on you!

Go online and download all necessary details, and do it now. I will keep in touch with you if necessary.

Once again, this is a very special operation and must be kept a top secret. It is code named: operation CHIBIKE!'

Major Dami spoke with a note of urgency in his voice.

The Green Ambassadors were now fully alert, as they rushed to the computer system. One good thing about The Green Ambassadors was their quick response to emergency. It took Wuraola only six minutes to get the details and the exact location.

As she printed out a copy, the other The Green Ambassadors was already preparing. They were trained to respond to emergency quickly. They were also prepared to face the hardest risk whatsoever.

Their points of calls will include the dreaded north eastern states.

Taribo took one quick glance around the room and then at his friends, and then slowly but clearly, he said, "Let's go'.
