Chapter 300 - Miss Mere's Questioning

"Well, that's something I'm now learning." Bandit took a brief pause to comprehend. "And it makes so much more sense now. That power."

"So you have fought him then?" Ula wanted to confirm.

"You could say I have." Bandit waved his hand over his body to justify.

"Was there anyone else with him when you two were fighting?"

"There were a lot of people trying to fight alongside him, although I can say that there were some people of similar power to Jamal with him."

"The others." Ula figured out, "Anyway, let me ask you some more important questions now. Can you tell me exactly what the plan against us was? What were your objectives or goals you needed to accomplish, that the Reserve Guard was ordered to do?"

"Besides us ending your people's little "rebellion", we had some other goals that I will not say. You will all find that out once you realize we're pushing past the bridge." Bandit snickered.

"Bridge? What are you tal-, oh wait, you don't know?"

"Know what?"

"The Port-O-Bea army is on their way to that city, I think it's called Appleridge. I don't remember exactly, but Jamal and them have long since passed that area." Ula cleared up, "I'm surprised they haven't told you."

"No way, that should have been impossible." Bandit couldn't help but feel disgusted, "What a group of complete failures. No matter, I'm sure by now Youden has mobilized the entire Reserve Guard by now, and your people will come crawling back here to defend the city."

"We alr-, excuse me, next question." the woman had to stop herself from having any of the prisoners in her vicinity know what was going on outside.

"Miss Mere, you have two more minutes!" the guard from earlier shouted down the hall.

"Okay, so I want to get really personal with you. Why did you join the Reserve Guard and not Youden's main army if you were invested in all this fighting? I mean clearly, you would have been more useful overseas than on the mainland."

Those words must have really struck a nerve, as they caused the man to stand up and approach the cell bars. Although he was only a few inches taller than her, Ula was not intimated by him at all, before he started growling like a dog.

"I would have been able to join them the day of the attack if only it never happened. Because of Jamal, he ruined everything I wanted to work for. All my dreams and ambitions were gone because he decided that he couldn't handle the way Youden saved these people. Our people!"

"You know that you're holding onto the coping and lies he's been feeding you, right?" Ula stayed seated, as Bandit gripped the bars.

"You'll never understand the pain I've gone through. The blood, sweat, and tears I've poured to get to where I am today. Do you know what it's like to have one eye, let alone the difficulties of life because of it? Did you know that it was the only thing stopping me from achieving so much in life!" he started rattling the iron.

"I didn't know, I'm sorry to hear. I just hope you understand that you've been misguided by those like your leader and that soon you'll be free like the rest of us. Once the war ends in our favor, of course." Ula watched as he started attempting to stretch his arms through the gaps, although the cuffs prevented him from being able to reach her.

"Your future husband's going to pay, I swore on my life, and I'll do it again! I'm going to kill him and then everything he has fought for! You better watch out for me."

"Sure buddy." Ula finally stood up, just as the guard from earlier finally returned to her side.

"Back up now!" the man swatted Bandit's arm, causing him to retract it rather quickly and move back to his original spot. "Sorry for the issues ma'am, he's extremely dangerous."

"Not really, he's just confused is all. Thank you for your time, Bandit." Ula gave her thanks, while the prisoner stared at her in disgust.

Not waiting for a reply, she turned towards the door with the guard behind her a few paces back. Ula didn't exactly get what she was looking for or better yet, any new information that would benefit the city, but some explanations for a lot of things. It kind of opened her eyes to the reality that most under Youden must have been indoctrinated through or changed through the years based on the technology and propaganda fed to them. She couldn't help but hold no hatred towards them, but pity.

"Did you find what you were looking for?" the guard slowed down at the exit, as the windows of the outdoors showed the city covered in smoke and soldiers moving towards the shore.

"In a way, I sure did. Thank you for allowing me to come by. I think we'll have a new visitor come back to the city soon." Ula gave him a smile.

"Really, who could that be?"

"If not a member of the Viligantes of Power, I think the man known as Jamal Wrint might do the city some justice just one more time, I feel it." Ula held her confidence proudly with those words. "So don't ever lose hope. Just not yet."
