Chapter 246 - The Assault For A New Future

The frontlines stayed abysmal not just for citizens of Port-O-Bea, but the military themselves. Even though they were pushed back almost out of city limits, did they still hold a significant portion of the city's population, and the increase in elevation did them wonders in defending. Through the sole gate did supplies come and go, with the newer recruited and mobilized troops filling their must needed to be plugged gaps. The battle for them was not over yet, as Zim stood guard alongside the other surviving commanders, having already lost three in the confusion weeks prior.

"This should be the final day we have to hold this pathetic group." Zim blew out some smoke from the cigarette he was using. "I mean, we shouldn't have waited this long for some help. I knew something was going to happen that day!"

"I mean, look at the bright side, we now have the advantage. Nothing is getting through the defense we have set up." one of the commanders waved towards the protection they had, a swarth of barricades and military fortification protecting the perimeter and the remaining population from the dangers below.

Were they going to have to resort to recruiting the civilian population, Zim had worried only days prior, until seeing the recent success they finally had at stopping the surprisingly focused rebels. He couldn't wait for the final reinforcement to come in and help end the chaos ensuing and kill off every Youden betrayer personally. Maybe afterward, would he finally get to be of actual use and put towards the other continent where the real fight was at? Not this crap.

Just thinking about that almost gave him a smile, if not a big shot of flames climbed through the air, signaling alarms across the remaining territory and shocking the soldiers standing by. He was here.

"Jamal Wrint is here! Jamal Wrint is here!" Zim roared out, dropping the cigarette from his mouth, "Get to your designated area now!"

As Zim started to push his way alongside the other commanders, shots rang out across their entire perimeter, with their artillery returning fire. Not knowing where they exactly were made it harder for them to pinpoint a location, as they began to rapidly fire in the general area where Jamal was at.

"Hold down your checkpoints!" One of the commanders signaled to the running soldiers moving towards their positions, "Do not let them through, no matter what!"

They just had to make things harder than they had to. As furious as one could be, Zim was actually a bit excited about Jamal bringing himself to the fight. In the few weeks he hadn't seem him, he was almost worried that they had finally killed him off. Well, that changed today and he was going to die for sure, no doubt about it. Zim was going to give him the death he needed.

....

Awaiting Jamal's signal, were hundreds of rebelling and townsfolk in certain sections of the city near the frontlines. Heskins was apart of one group closest towards those lines, as they had taken cover behind a long row of collapsed rowhouses. Just looking through one of the cracks of the building, could one see the defending military a few hundred yards away, protected by large piles of sandbags and lightly laid out barbed wire. It appeared that Youden's army in the town was more underequipped than they had really predicted.

"Sheesh, when is that man going to let us kill these invaders?" one of the townspeople spoke.

"I'm ready to kill!" another spoke.

"Hey guys, keep it dow-" Heskins turned to quiet down the chatter.

Just as he was about to finish the statement, a large plume of fire rose into the fire, alongside a loud roar of another group moving forward. It was finally go time.

"Attack!" Heskins didn't hesitate to turn around as he pointed toward the enemies.

Seriously ready to kill with a thirst for blood, the Port-O-Bea rebels charged through or around the ruins, surprising the standby military, unprepared for an imminent charge to so close by. Even loading up their rifles and spraying a small swarm of the group closest to them, did nothing in the long run as they were quickly overrun and dealt with. The battle to either liberate or risk everything for the city was underway, and time would truly be the factor in deciding what society and ways were going to make it.
