Chapter 173 - Trials of Error

Lero was silent in the carr ride, as the soldiers hung tight within their seats. They had forced him into this thing apparently, as he was awoken to someone finishing healing his abdomen and bandaging him up. He couldn't guess what time it was, but by looking outside, he could tell it was nasty. The cool day was filled with clouds, as Ariocasters soared above him, but only one with propellers.

"You seem to be enjoying the view." the man that shot him said, surprising Lero with someone finally acknowledging him, "I hope your enjoying the sight for your last time."

"What you want from me now?" Lero looked back at him glum-like. "You pinscher."

If the vehicle wasn't so tight already, the man would have gotten up, and knocked the mess out of him. But it would have been a waste of energy to bother so anyway, so he just grinned back at him.

"You've hid longer than most under your new occupation." the man confided, attempting to scare Lero, "However, it appears that you're going to have to pay for your crimes in Alentia."

"Alenwhat?" Lero was confused by the name.

"Whatever this place's capital was, that it's new name. Get used to it too." the man turned around, so Lero could get a good look.

He never actually been to Suruthem's capital, and seeing it now, was actually impressive if he wasn't probably going to die. They were just entering the main part of the city, as the streets began to noticeably get more smaller, and the buildings more closer together. This was definitely a dangerous zone to be in, Lero tensed with worry, as he continued looking out the window. Vehicles of all arrays were parked outside, throwing food into the large crowd he just noticed, with rifles held tightly in case of fighting. Welp, it appears that they were being lied to the entire time about the place getting better.

"We're almost there." the man said again, as they took a sharp left to avoid rubble blocking rest of the road. "Here is where you'll pay for the rest of your crimes."

Lero still didn't know what crimes he committed, until the vehicle lurched to a stop in front of what appeared to be a state building. Forced through the back, Lero craned his eyes to glare at a line of people cuffed, being shuffled inside with multiple soldiers holding weapons to prevent escape. Or so he thought, as one of the people kicked one in the crotch, before beginning to dash past the guards.

"I rather die than go thro-" the cuffed woman cried out, before a shot rang out.

He just stared as the body collapsed onto the ground, a gnarly headshot to the back of the temple. No thank you, he gulped, before he was shoved forward.

"Bloody Jeepers." Lero noted, as he quickly went through the building, the line rushing inside after the sight.

From the inside, much of the building was gutted, as propaganda was being put up in place, as he followed the line to the left of the lobby. Entering a narrow hallway, he heard a commotion up ahead, before staring at the room they were being put inside.

There was a magistrate who really was a soldier, propped against the desk temporarily placed there, as he heard another case made by a defendant.

"I was just trying to feed my daughter. She's suffering through malnutrition!" A father cried out.

"Anyway, you can go to jail for, uh, five years? Yeah, that sounds right." The man decided upon, shooing him away.

"Please! No!" the father cried, as guards carried him away, "She will die on your hands!"

The judge looked disgusted, before bringing forth the next person. Lero waited for over two hours, as just about each person that came up to speak was incarcerated. The longest term he had heard was for life, and that was for burning down a large poster of Youden himself. He had no chance himself, before it was finally his turn. He was moved forward, onto a wooden chair, as he stared into the judge's eye to decide his fate.

"Reason for trial?" he asked the soldiers next to him.

"He attempted to murder all five of us." the man in the carr had spoke up, "We barely stopped him with our lives."

"Wait, what!" Lero gotten out of the seat, before being pushed back down. "Humita's Wrath come down on your lies!"

"Silence, peasant." the judge commanded, "Now, explain to me how this occurred."

"He grabbed one of our taboons, before being too stupid to know how to fire it." the man had to hold back a laugh, with Lero staring in shock.

There was no way the judge could not see through this lie, but Lero knew this was a sham trial in the first place. He wasn't going to win this, but he had a shot to escape.

"Now, to who am I speaking to?" the judge asked Lero.

"Lero. Lero Bentom."

"Lero Bentom, what's your side of the story."

"I was minding my bloody business in my "home", when I had heard these men approaching it. I hid from them in the bushes, while they came bloody looting. Turns out, Suruthem had been conquered over a week now, and no one bloody came to me! Jamal didn't bother warning me!"

The judge eyes widened with Jamal's name, before motioning a guard to come to him. Lero watched, as he quickly whispered something into his ear, before the guard nodded, and reloaded his pistol.

"Whoa! Mate, calm down!" Lero attempted to get up, before being forced to stay still. "I didn't do anything wrong! I'm innocent! Rejain moha!"

"It appears that you've been working with Jamal Wrint, who's been the Number 1 Most Wanted Person Of Interest in all of Youdenia, and for attempted murder on our fellow men in arms. You're getting, uh, death or life imprisonment? Right? It was that?" he asked the guard next to him, to which he nodded. "Okay, yeah. One of those two. I was on a roll too. Pick one."

Without hesitation, Lero yelled out, "Bloody prison, you wankers! It'll be the holiday for me!"

The judge just laughed with brief hesitation, while the other guards laughed at the response. Was this some type of joke, Lero frowned, although he stayed tense for what was to come.

"You do realize you're heading to Suginur Prison?" the guard ended with a chuckle.

"So?" Lero grinned back at him.

"That's the heaviest secured prison and facility in the world. More armed than the bottom fifty nations combined." the judge announced to the shocked Lero. "Take him away."

"No! Bloody wait a second!" Lero cried out, as he tried to fight the multiple guards on top of him. "This was a sham! I demand a fair trial!"

"Next!" the judge called out, as Lero was dragged out of the room.

"I'm going to kill all of you! For real this time!" Lero cried out, before someone injected something into his neck.

He wobbled alongside the men, his vision getting dizzy. He was lied to, and now his life was going to be in shambles. Death was the better option, he wished back for, as everything darked.
