Ula flicked her hand, as the darkness surrounding it disappeared. Watching next to her, her son Laken tried the same thing, except nothing happened. Again. She sighed as she brought her hand down, while Laken was straining to make anything appear.
"Laken, you have to focus the energy through your hands. You have to feel it flow through you." she said, as she grabbed his hands. "Try again."
"But Ma..." Laken began to say.
"Just try again. Please." she tried to comfort him. "You can do it."
She watched as Laken lifted his hand again and began to attempt to concentrate the energy towards his hands. At least this is how she was taught to it. She never remembered it to be this hard. It could only be up to him to do it. Continuing to watch, he could see him straining to keep his hands up longer, before he dropped his hand.
"I can't Mama. It too hard." he cried out.
"It's okay. We can try again later. Let's just go back inside." she tried to say confidently, as she picked him back up.
As she walked back inside, she thought about why Jamal had her do this. He's probably have the time of his life right now, she assumed, while she's at home with a toddler barely able to speak properly and unable to do basic things with his powers. Oh could she not wait for him to come back and try it himself.
