Jamal was struck awake when he heard a shuffle outside the room. So much for last night, he fumbled, as he got out of bed. Dang, not only he realized it was too late, but that he had no pull-out game too! Let's please not have another child right now, Jamal begged, as he looked where Ula slept, her nowhere there. Guess she was the one making noise out in the hallway.
Opening the door, he could see Ula cooking something, but Laken's door was closed. At least they stopped before it got any louder. As he reached the kitchen, he could see Ula was barely wearing much herself.
"Jamal, cover yourself!" she shouted at him when he realized he was still naked from that night.
"Oh, my bad! But I'm just saying that you don't look much different yourself." he scurried away back into the room, before beginning to clean himself up.
Once he finished, he returned to the kitchen, where Ula had finished making breakfast and had plates of it already down. He sat down, before looking at her. Even though she looked great, he knew they had to talk about the previous night.
"So, uh, about last night?" Jamal began to say.
"Jamal, I'm sorry. I was getting a bit carried away after everything that's just happened and I don't even know and I-" she began to say teary-eyed.
"Hey, what happened, happened and there's nothing we can do about it. We'll just hope for the best that nothing came out of it. It's a bummer nothing can really be done about it." Jamal butted in.
But as he was speaking, a small creak was heard towards their bedroom, and Jamal looked to see Laken's door open slowly.
"You checked in on Laken?" Jamal asked Ula.
"No, I didn't want to disturb him, just in case."
"Ula, I know last night was rough, but you have to remember you have to make sure he's safe. Don't worry I got it." he told her, as he got out of his seat.
Moving towards the door, he looked around and his eyes opened in fear. The entire wall with the window looking outdoors was blown away, with flakes of snow entering the room. He noticed the seared edges of the remaining bits of the wall which was strange, but not the strangest thing inside the room. The bed they had finally finished setting up for Laken had collapsed and standing in the middle of the entire mess was their son trembling with a swarm of darkness lightly covering him and his eyes darker than usual.
"Ula!" Jamal cried out, before the darkness surrounding Laken crashed him into the wall as if it was a solid thing.
"Oh my goodness! Laken!" Ula cried out in shock, as the boy stared at her before it quickly faded away.
Jamal could only watch as Laken collapsed onto the floor, with Ula scooping him up into her arms. Did they not hear anything from his room at all? But it could only mean one thing?
"Jamal, are you okay?" Ula asked him, as he steadied himself up.
"I'm taking much worse, didn't hurt a bit." he lied, as his back stang from the attack, "But could that be-"
"His powers?" Ula noted, as Laken began to stir awake.
"Mama, the dark baddies came for me." Laken muttered to her, as Jamal inspected the damage more intensely.
Burn marks around the edges of the wall? Jamal questioned that until he recalled the attack Laken brought onto him. He attacked me with darkness like Ula could, but I couldn't exactly feel any burn, but then again I use fire constantly and I could barely feel some type of heat from it, Jamal noted. Yeah, it could be it.
"It could only be his powers coming into effect. That's actually incredible!" Jamal announced with joy.
"Jamal, he hurt you! And his entire room was basically destroyed!"
"I hurt Pa?" Laken cried out in confusion.
"No, you showed me something that you now have just like many people in this world. You have powers!" Jamal went towards him.
"Jamal, he barely could control it! This isn't something to brag about right now." Ula noted to him, as Laken slowly got out of her hands.
"Of course, but think about when he gets older and masters it. The possibilities will be endless! He could even be stronger than me for all I know. And I thought they started getting signs of their powers at like four or five, not three?"
"I found out about mines at four, from what my parents told me, you?"
"Seven, when I punched a bully's locker," Jamal recalled the terrible memory, as Laken hugged his leg.
"The baddie hurt me Pa." Laken began to cry.
"Well, I'll take care of them soon. But I got to go right now, cause I got to check on Hoppy. Take care of your mother for a bit." Jamal remembered as he brought him back towards Ula.
"You're still going to go?" Ula noted before he kissed her.
"I don't have a choice, but I'm not leaving yet. Later tonight I will have to though. I'll see what I can do about repairs and with Laken's ability. Please be careful Ula." he told her, as he began making his way towards Hops' and the other's apartment.
With news like this, imagine what could happen if Youden got his hands on the family. And if another child came along, then it would only be a matter of time before their powers could be found. Jamal had to make sure it was taken care of before that ever occurred, and as quickly as possible.
