Quanini was disappointed. Youden would choose Kurt to lead, but he couldn't even take Jamal out. He didn't want to make this call, as the caller was ringing and the machine to his ear, but Youden needed to know that someone couldn't finish the job.
"Is it done?" Youden spoke on the fourth ring.
"Um, sir." He began to speak, before eying the collapsed Kurt, with healers attending to him as he was talking, "Kurt, Kurt lost."
There was silence in the air, as Quaini looked down at the floor, not knowing Youden's reaction. It wouldn't be good.
"You know what." Youden grumbled, "I think I'll do it myself if you simpletons can't even capture a single person! You probably didn't even get one of the people from the files! I want you back to Youdenio City immediately!"
Before Quanini could respond, Youden hanged up, as he sighed. Why didn't Kurt just get the help he knew he would need? He had one job and he couldn't do it. As he felt around his cheeks, he looked back down at Kurt, who they just took out of the building and likely to a better place for him to recover. Or to hold off his death, which he didn't know.
Sighing, he hooked the caller back up, as he walked out the building. He could see some of their forces returning back into the camp, no doubt from the failure from above. They probably could have won even with Kurt out if someone was out there to lead them. Pessimistic as always, he didn't care at this point. The other Keeper, Tumn, was likely dead, and the others were still down south, looking for Jamal, not knowing he was up here somehow. It was a miracle they were told to come up here, just in time to see Kurt getting dropped. But he too had plans, and it would only be a matter of time until he escaped the Keepers. Escaping this mess and returning to freedom was only so far away.
