Jamal woke up with a grin. Today was the day he was looking forward to. June 2nd had arrived, and he already had the day prepared. He didn't need an alarm to know exactly what time it was, then again, his watch was waiting next to him, waiting to be put on, which he gladly did.
"It's so early, Jamal." Ula began to wake up once he nudged her, as it was just becoming dawn.
"I know, but we have a busy day ahead, at least for you. One day of peace, before we get out of here!" he grinned, before kissing her for a few seconds.
"Jamal, we don't have to spend today like this. We could be doing better or more important things." she began to speak again, once he backed away.
"Or, we could have a blast. Your choice. But you probably never have this fun in a while, so it's really up to you and al-" he began to speak.
"Fine, but I hope it's worth it what you're doing." she laughed, getting out of the bed and grabbed something from the dresser, before going to the bathroom.
Excited, Jamal picked out nice sweatpants and a clean polo shirt he had laying inside. Putting it on, he looked in the mirror to see a light beard forming. He was considering whether to shave it or not when the door opened and Ula came out.
"How do I look?" she grinned at him.
She was wearing a stunning grey short dress, and Jamal couldn't lie, but she was looking good.
"I have no words." he managed to sputter.
"Well, clean up and then let's see what you got!" she joked around.
It didn't take long, but once she finished, he wrapped his arm around Ula.
"It's going to be good," he told her, as they exited the room.
They walked past the entrance, and out to the open streets, mostly quiet except for the daily repairs continuing around the city. Little did they know what would come the next day. But for now, it was just him and Ula.
A twenty-minute walk later, they arrived at a newly opened breakfast joint.
"This is the place Hops told me about. It supposedly serves the best breakfast in town and it's cheaper compared to what everything costs."
And Hops wasn't wrong. They both ordered some sweet biscuits and eggs, and it was delicious as expected. Jamal quietly thanked Hops for not lying to him, as they ate in pleasure. Once he paid, he dragged Ula out of the place and deeper downtown.
"Where we going next?" she giggled, as they were traveling deeper into the richest parts of town.
"Here," he said, as they stopped in front of a large building shaped like a stage.
"You didn't! Jamal!" she cried in happiness.
The famous Theater of Saputan Arts was in front of them, and Jamal had luckily purchased some tickets at a discount for a neat fighting play he thought they would both like.
"I told you I was ready." he grinned, as they went inside, where he handed the tickets before being they were led to some grand seats on the top of the theater getting the best view of the entire event.
"I can't-, this is too much!" she began to cry, as Jamal just kissed her deeply.
The play itself was action-packed to Jamal's delight and had a plot that Ula connected to. Jamal didn't care about anything else, as long as Ula got everything she could want. By the time it finished, Ula was on her feet with joy, and Jamal followed suit, giving the actors a standing ovation.
Leaving, Jamal could tell the mood was going well in his favor. As he led her to a restaurant where he already got fresh, prepackaged food, he noticed something behind him. Turning around, as they exited the building, he eyed what looked like a shadow, but there was nothing near when they got closer.
"Weird," he mumbled.
"Is something wrong?" Ula asked, kissing his cheek.
"Nah, but everything is going good for you?"
"You've done so much for me today; I can't repay you."
"Don't have to. Cause tomorrow, we'll be out."
Finally arriving at one of plenty of the cities parks, he rented a blanket, as he sat down with their lunch. The food, fancy meats, and splendid vegetables made a perfect blend with their other options inside.
"This is so wonderful, Jamal." Ula managed to say once she finished eating.
"I know," he replied, finishing as well and he laid back staring into the sky.
She moved closer to him, as they just sat down and enjoyed the view for hours, basking in the sun's light. The mood was set, as it began to get dark, and Jamal decided to ask a final question.
"Is there anything else you wanted to do or I missed?" he asked her.
"Not that I can think of,"
"What about, you know, spicing things up a bit," he looked at her, "If you want to, we-"
"Jamal, are you asking to do it, because it's my birthday, or because you love me?"
"Both." he grinned, kissing her.
Smiling at him, she got up and grabbed his hand. Do not mess this up, Jamal thought, as they packed up the remaining belongings and returning the rented materials. They strolled back in silence as they reached the hotel just to see a final sunset before the next day. Waiting in the lobby, was Hops with the little belongings he had left.
"Finally, I've been waiting all day. And happy birthday, Ula." he greeted them.
"Thanks." she eagerly hugged him.
"So can I stay in your guy's room or what?" Hops said.
Ula and Jamal looked at each other with concern. Not this night.
"Um, you can stay with Fonda and Brat. Our room is a bit of a mess." Jamal quickly told him.
"Oh, I see." he noticed what was to come, and carried his stuff.
They walked down to the courtyard and soon they were in front of their rooms. Jamal nodded at Hops, who walked closer to him.
"I know what you're about to do. Keep it quiet, please. Good luck I guess." Hops whispered to him.
He could only nod in agreement, as he waved him good night before knocking on the door next to theirs and entering inside. Jamal did the same, as Ula moved in, and he closed it behind. Not waiting for a second, he made sure it was locked, and the windows were closed and couldn't be open.
"Don't have to force yourself to do this," he told her, taking off his shirt to reveal his toned body.
"I know, Jamal, but this will make this birthday really count." she slyly grinned at him, getting back on the bed.
That night, Jamal did the deed with their bodies meshed together, and boy was it hot. At least he was leaving this place with a bang, as they fell asleep well that night, an hour later.
