Once we finished the studio and went upstairs towards her room. Friends were actually half done and they were seeing her photo album. Sana started saying No...No..NO...this is bad and she rushed towards them to snatch the album and they all teased her by passing from one to another while it came to me I took that and asked her If I can see them.
"We all made puppy face and asked her If we can see?" she said OK fine and gave in with a small pout. She looked cute.
I opened the album and rest all surrounded me and she sat opposite to me. What is this tradition called honey I asked her and Vicky and Kumar joined in. We looked at girls and asked if they also get to have these ceremonies. They said No and explained though we belong to same country we have regional differences and community differences so our traditions, rituals, eating habits, language we speak are all different.
Ho interesting so Honey can you please explain we all asked her unison.
This place is my grand pops Farm house that was built by mom and her sisters for them and for our holiday house.
So its like this In our mothers family; family elders and my mom brothers will give us our first pattu pavada and saree and only after this ceremony we get to wear pattu pavada.
Its ceremony specially celebrated for girls in the family.
Ian showed her pics and asked her to explain.
That is early morning during sunrise my grandma, Mom , her sisters and sister in laws they all apply oil for our hairs. They mix turmeric, natural sandal wood extract with milk and almond and some saffron extract and they apply to our hands, face and legs with mango leaves and they will keep little sindoor before they pour holly water through the silver colander(looks like food strainer in the kitchen) on our head It starts from grandma and then by age one after other till the youngest.
What is this pic? why is there so much turmeric on you? and what's with that big red bhindi one of us questioned her.
She giggled and said once my grandma and other five big people of family applies my aunts, My uncles and my cousins they purposefully applied more and they made me look like this.
Ian asked about throwing water on each other. She gave a smile and explained this pic once the mix is applied by every one they will pour water on my head through the silver colander after the elders poured water as per traditions all my cousins each took one bucket full of water and they splashed me with water together from all directions and yeah we all play in water some time chasing and throwing water for each other so the pic was taken while we all were playing with water.
What is this what are you doing here? referring one of the pic I asked her
She again explained patiently Its the tradition where we do puja for goddess Gowri and my grandma and aunts are putting me green bangles which are holy for us after the pooja. After this they make me sit on a chair and there are certain rituals they perform to me and starting with grandpops and grandma my uncle and aunts they come bless me and give me loads of love and gifts along with gifts they have to give me Pattu Pavada( Half Saree) which is must.
All these while I was the one holding the album she was so adorable in each and every pic, while being seated obediently during rituals and being notty while teasing her cousins and her playful pics with her cousins and chasing her cousins pics with water mugs it was like we were all living with her in that moment.
While others complained for not showing them these pics Ian told her Wow honey you sure are one pampered kid in your family. Its all seen in the pics they all love you a lot. They sure do she replied and she smiled.
You look beautiful Honey I complimented her and she smiled at me and thanked me.
Aunt Pari walked in with night fruit snack bowls and told us to comedown after we finish for a musical night.
