There was a spark deep in the darkness of the metaverse, where the vacuum seemed truly empty and the concept of heat death seemed like a real possibility. Even in the meta-verse, where evolved universes merged, jamming galaxies and gods together, there are still empty spaces like this one, billions of light years from everything else.
Here, they were truly alone.
Not unconnected though. Quantum entanglement transcends time and space, and, they had discovered, even universes. They were able to watch the trials, growth and deaths of the people they cared about, and then their ancestors, across the ages and universal divide.
They were once something, a being, maybe a great one, but now was a barely conscious collection of thoughts and particles. As close to non-existent as something could be.
