Synopsis
"Sell your coat and buy betony." - An old foraging proverb For as long as Betony can remember, the Red Moon has brought terror to the Six Parishes. The only ones who understand the phenomenon are the elite Huntsmen, who exercise undue power over each village. When Betany refuses the advances of Keiran, Protector of the Rim, she provokes a perilous outcome. With an ancient red cloak and the strength of the women before her, Betony must learn to stand on her own. Forced to trust what she's never understood, she must ask herself the question that changes everything: Who is the real wolf? [A RETELLING OF RED RIDING HOOD IN THE MIDNIGHT UNIVERSE]

Chapter 1 - AUTHOR'S NOTE

Note from the author:

This is an extremely rough draft of a story I started several years ago. I have officially "reopened" it, so-to-speak, making it ongoing as of 2021. It is technically a sequel to "Midnight's Song," though it happens a few hundred years after the events in the novel. It is not the immediate sequel for that reason, but would perhaps be book four or five in the series. It is somewhat of a retelling of the classic tale "Little Red Riding Hood," but with a fresh twist in perspective. Think: "Red Riding Hood meets The Village."

I am writing the series out of chronological order, and because this is a fairly independent story at this point, you're not required to have read the original novel to understand it. I do, however, recommend it! As it is a technical sequel, there will be some nice little Easter-eggs in here for fans of the first book. There are also going to be some handy little references to events that haven't technically happened yet, but I'll try not to spoil too much for those of you who are excited to read the chronological sequels that take place after Midnight. The plot is also meant to tie in to the larger story, which will be more evident when the other sequels are published.

Regardless, I do hope that you will enjoy reading this story, as I feel it will be thrilling in itself. As it is a draft I've barely touched in two years, there will be some mistakes. I am in the process of correcting these so that I can go forward from Chapter 4 and on to serialization. I've posted it here so that I can share it with you guys and be motivated to continue it, as I wrote chapters one through five and stopped in 2013. Now I have a fresher perspective and am ready to take off!
