Chapter 2 - Here I Am

18 years of age is when you become an adult, so I decided to make a change in my life. I was no longer going to live in darkness, but I didn't want to disappoint my father. Yet, I didn't want to live under his shadow any longer either, so I knew I would have to leave without him knowing. Father would take me on hunts at night and during the day I would pack what I knew I could carry. It was exhausting, but it had to be done. I spent a few days with this routine, going over my plan until I fell asleep each morning. On the third night, my father decided he was not going to take me on a hunt. Something was off with him, but I couldn't tell what. We sat and ate dinner in complete silence, until there was an urgent knock on the door.

"Alexander, let me in it's Rose!" my mother said with extreme worry in her voice. Father rushed to the door and let her in. They embraced each other for a short period, then both looked over at me.

"It's time, isn't it Rosie?" My father said looking back at Mother, with extreme sadness.

"Yes, Alexander dear, I'm afraid our nightmare has come true. The coven will be here in a week's time to kill the girl." She said in an emotionless tone, like she didn't care about me at all, but the sadness was in her eyes.

"What about Father?" I asked already knowing the answer.

They both swallowed before my mother spoke, "If he is caught with you he will be returned to his pack and executed for his crimes." She said with tears in her eyes. My mother was about to lose the one thing in her life she cared of because of me. Even though she didn't care much about me, I couldn't let my father die. I knew exactly what I had to do, my plan was just going to speed up more than I wanted to at the time.

"I'm not feeling too good I'm going to head to bed early. I love you both goodnight." I said not 100 percent lying to them.

Father responded back to me, "Goodnight little one, when you wake the moon will shine brightly on you. I love you to the moon and back."

While Mother replied with, "Goodnight child of darkness, I as well love you." and with those words I turned toward my bedroom and didn't plan on seeing either of them when I awoke.
