"How much longer did you intend to make me wait?" Fester's greeting was about as civil as could be expected. Trixie tried not to take it too personally. Sleezebag or not, she was late after all.
"If you didn't want to bother waiting, then why did you arrive so early?" Trixie questioned innocently.
She had heard Esmyria say once that a lady was never truly late to anything. Any one who arrived before her was simply early. It was a desparate ploy, and likely poorly executed, but Trixie's tired brain couldn't come up with a better solution to difuse the situation. Beside her, Ellie was making an odd expression. She couldn't tell if the handmaiden was amused or mortified.
'Real talk?' Lamya chuckled. 'It's probably a bit of both. Damn that was a crappy line, but the face that bastard is making... priceless!'
