"Do you mind if I sit here?" Trixie asked, carefully approaching the gentleman.
It seemed to take him a moment to realize she was addressing him. He continued staring blankly ahead a few moments, then slowly, unblinkingly, his eyes glided over to her. As he recognized that she was staring at him, he straightened to adress her in an odd, sloth-like fashion.
"Forgive me, I did not realize at first that it was me whom you had addressed," He said in a detached sort of voice. "I apologize for my negligence, but I was not paying attention. Could you repeat your question for me?"
"May I sit here?" Trixie replied patiently. She didn't consider herself much of a bleeding heart, but something about the lonely looking man and his downtrodden demeaner tugged at her compassion.
