'Is there a reason you're avoiding Emerick?' Lamya questioned.
"Because I don't feel like seeing him," Trixie grumbled into her pillow. "He'll survive a night on his own."
'He looked pretty upset,' Lamya commented. 'You were pretty cold towards him.'
"He didn't look any different than usual," Trixie argued.
'Don't lie to yourself,' Lamya snorted. ' The both of you are miserable, and you know it. I don't understand why you don't just do something about it.'
Trixie didn't reply. How could Lamya understand? From what little Trixie had learned of the demon's life before her capture, the culture and mating practices were completely different. For starters, the demons didn't have conventional weddings to cement a partnership. Like wild animals, they simply selected a mate and went from there. No dating, no marriage, essentially just, 'hey, you want to hook up?' 'Sure'!
