The sound of the school bell filled the area as students filed out of the building. Kio felt the warm April sun as he left the campus, wearing a new discount hoodie he borrowed from the thrift shop. A simple Orange hoodie with a jaw with fangs imprinted on it.
His ears perked as he felt someone's presence behind and met with a tap to the shoulder.
"Nice threads." The student complimented with a wide toothy grin and large goofy glasses. His stature was small and he had jet black geled hair and rich brown Skin. Despite his compliment to Kio's crappy attire The student wore trendy clothes and had clean sneakers, sharp contrast from what Kio normally rocked. "You didn't come home late last night jackass."
"I got caught up." Kio responded
"With what?" The kid said in a sarcastic tone. "I'm the only person you ever hang out with. You're useless without me."
Kio scoffed. The kids name was Bruno. About Kio's age and a notorious smart, with the brains and charm to get into the 10th grade with flying colors. Kio stays with his family sometimes and works at their restaurant, been there for eight months since making it to New York.
"Whatever. Mom left you some chicken and rice in the fridge," Bruno paused to think for a bit. " and a lecture."
Gurdian voice shot out in Kio's head. "Paranormal
" Kio paused and stopped in his tracks. " My protocol is sensing a threat."
"And what exactly does that mean?" Kio questioned.
Bruno raised an eyebrow and titled his head. "Yo K you good?" he asked.
"We must go. Now" Guardian stressed his words as he spoke.
"Sorry something came up." Kio said. He was sure to keep his surroundings in his peripheral. "I forgot I promised to stay behind for extra credit." Kio's voice cracked in his response.
Bruno bit his lips before letting out a sigh. "Alright man, whatever. Just dont stay out too late, my mom will be worried sick."
Kio nodded as Bruno walked away, waving as his back faced him.
Kio looked around as he put in his earbuds. "what do you mean threat?" Kio said to guardian. "Where is it?"
"East, 50 meters. High levels of blood lust. follow it." the voice said.
"Why exactly would I need to go towards a threat?" Kio asked.
"Paranormal activity." the voice echoed. "Protocol says to engage."
"Let me guess, this is why you wanted me to go to the school? little late huh?"
"I've detected multiple signatures of paranormal, so I was skeptical. but this one's too strong to ignore."
Kio makes his way against the crowd and found himself at the edge of an alleyway.
"It's always an alley way." Kio said aloud. "What exactly am i–" Kio's words shattered to silence as he forces his hand to clench his nose. "What is that." he asked
"Bloodlust. the Paranormal is close. follow the smell." Guardian said.
Kio waited before venturing further into the alley. He makes his way to the first turn and threw up from the stench.
"Almost there." Guardian said.
Kio turned the corner, his heart racing and lunging out of his chest.
"Everything alright?" A teen asks Kio as he turned the Kio. He was around six feet with long shoulder length black hair and long sleeves. Accompanied by a girl a little less than his age. "You sick or something?" the teen asked again.
