Chereads / Apocalyptic Conversion System / Chapter 3 - Isabel Becker

Chapter 3 - Isabel Becker

Milo ran in the opposite direction from where he had met the girl. Although he hadn't seen the girl clearly, he had clearly noticed that she had brunette hair, which Isabel didn't have. He clearly remembered that in his memories Isabel had light auburn hair.

As he was rushing down the stairs, he encountered a hoard of zombies. Milo wanted to get to Isabel's class as soon as possible, so he didn't waste his time dealing with them. In his head, he consoled himself, saying that he would find them later and kill them in order to get a good profession.

In his previous life, he didn't kill many zombies, less than 10, in the first 6 hours, but still got a desirable profession. This life, he had already killed 4 zombies in less than half an hour.

Milo skidded to a stop when he reached Isabel's class. He could hear the wail of students in the classroom. Milo, worried, thinking Isabel was in the same room as them.

Milo immediately opened the door.

It was the freshmen Algebra class. The whiteboard was filled with posters about the pythagorean theorem and the quadratic formula. Desks were overturned all around the class room, and he could hear a group of students sobbing behind the teacher's desk. Right in front of the teacher's desk were four zombies.

Milo creeped behind the zombies and quickly pierced two of them with his spear. Again, notifications started ringing.

{ Ordinary Zombie defeated. Gained 10 Exp. }

{ Ordinary Zombie defeated. Gained 10 Exp. }

{ Level up }

The other two zombies turned when they heard their mates falling to the ground.

Their hands reached out in front of them, and Milo could clearly hear their intentions. It was as if they were shouting, "We want human meat!"

Milo jumped back. He felt much stronger and faster after becoming level four.

He pivoted and sliced his spear horizontally.

This time his spear didn't get stuck in the zombie's bones. Although it had some resistance, Milo's strength helped it tear through the zombie.

Zombie organs and guts spilled everywhere. The toppled teacher's desk was covered with dark blood, making it look like a painting.

{ Ordinary Zombie defeated. Gained 10 Exp. }

{ Ordinary Zombie defeated. Gained 10 Exp. }

The students huddled behind the desk started wailing even more when the blood from the zombie splattered near them. Milo heard one of them screaming, "Mommy!".

When Milo went near the students, he grimaced as a strong stench of urine hit him. Many of the students had peed themselves. It looked as if the teacher had barely controlled herself not to.

Milo didn't want to stay here any longer than necessary. He wanted to fight more zombies. Not for fun, but for his profession. He didn't want to become like those maniacs who got addicted to killing and didn't care whether they killed humans or zombies.

Milo looked at the group of students. He didn't see Isabel among them.

Milo waited until the group calmed down. Although the young teacher was about to leak, she was the fastest to regain her cool.

Milo didn't even ask her name. He immediately questioned her, "Where is Isabel?"

The teacher, confused, tilted her head and uttered, "Huh?".

Milo slowly repeated, once again, "Where is Isabel Becker?".

This time the blonde teacher understood and said, "She went to the restroom during class."

Although she said class, everyone understood that she meant before the apocalypse. She just couldn't put the apocalypse into words. She had seen the zombies and students being injured but wasn't sure if this was reality or was just a nightmare.

Milo, learning that Isabel must be near the restroom, turned to leave.

One of the students mustered their strength and managed to ask, "Could we come with you?"

Milo looked at the student. He seemed frail and had big, round glasses which gave him a geeky look.

"Whatever you want. It's your decision. Don't expect me to protect you."

Milo could have protected them if he wanted, but it would have been worse for them in the future. They needed to learn to survive themselves. Also, he didn't want to be burdened protecting others.

Milo headed out of the classroom. Most of the students instantly got up to follow him, but some were still uncertain. However, as they saw the teacher and students get up, they also decided to follow him. Soon, Milo had a whole class following him down the hallway.

Milo learned that the teacher's name was Lily Evans. She had just graduated from college and was a new teacher in the school. The geeky kid who asked to follow him was Liam Howard. For some reason, the name sounded familiar, but Milo shrugged off the thought. Those two were the front of the line behind him.

When the girl's restroom came to sight, he found a mob of zombies blocking the hall. There must have been about 14 or 15. Milo wasn't scared. He decided to use a useful combat technique from his past life. He believed his physique was now good enough to try it.

It was called the Whirling Slashes of the Heaven Sword. One of his friends who was a sword master had taught him it in his previous life. Milo decided to try it with his spear.

Milo moved to the right side of the hall with his spear in his left hand. His fingers were twisting in insane speeds, so fast that the students behind him couldn't see his hand movements. All they could see was the spear was twisting in all sorts of directions and his hands were blurred.

This technique was meant for two swords. Each hand was supposed to twist both swords on both sides in whirling slashes, but all Milo had was a spear. Although the spear was longer and covered more area, it wasn't as light as a sword and was harder to move. Still, Milo managed to execute the technique.

Milo ran towards the mob. His light footsteps kept from alerting the zombies. The students gasped as they saw him rushing in. They thought it was suicide. The teacher couldn't help but call his name. Liam was also muttering, but not in worry for Milo. He was mumbling something along the lines of, "That's impossible. The normal functional range of wrist motion is 5 degrees of flexion, 30 degrees of extension, 10 degrees of radial deviation, and 15 degrees of ulnar deviation. " Milo didn't fully hear what Liam was saying. He thought it must have been some incomprehensible nerdy talk which normal people couldn't understand.

The hubbub alerted the zombies. They turned towards the direction of Milo and his group. However, it was too late.

When the first zombie turned its head, it noticed that its body had been cut in half.

Milo's spears kept on swinging, not affected by the obstacles in front of them.

He killed four of the zombies in a few seconds. Notifications rang out in his head, however, he ignored them. There was also an option of closing notifications, but Milo liked notifications because he felt satisfied seeing himself gain Exp. and it also helped him keep track of his level.

Milo leveled up to level 5, and now, his spear swung even faster. The zombies, who didn't have any intelligence, still tried to close in on him. Normally, others would try backing away.

As Milo entered deeper and deeper in the mob of zombies, he could make out two figures in the middle of the crowd. They were holding metal pipes and were trying to fend off the zombies surrounding them. They managed to keep the zombies away from them but weren't able to kill any.

Milo sliced the head of two more zombies, and went closer to the two people. He could see they were two girls. Each time they swung, they shrieked, "Get away!", which had an opposite effect on the zombies. The zombies that were heading towards Milo, attracted by the noise, started heading back to the team of two.

One of the voices seemed similar to Milo, but he couldn't pinpoint it. After all, he had travelled back in time and had forgotten many of his classmates. When he caught a view of the girls, once again, he felt like smacking himself for being stupid.

A fierce girl stood before the other girl, and kept swinging her pipe and screaming. Her light auburn hair moved with her, giving her a fierce look. She was the girl Milo was looking for. It was Isabel Becker.

Milo moved even faster and stabbed the zombies in front of him. He killed the remaining 10 zombies and didn't stop even once. By the end of the fight, he was level 6 and was only 10 Exp. points away from level 7.

Milo was overjoyed. Partly because he leveled up and was close to becoming level 7, but majorly because he was lucky enough to make it in time. If he had been even a second late, the girls would have been bitten by the zombies and would have turned into zombies themselves.

Milo ran towards Isabel. Even though it was far in the past, he could remember the close relationship he had with her. He caught her as she fainted. It seemed that she had overexerted herself when she tried to keep the zombies away.

He carried her into the girls restroom and hoped that the faucet would turn on. He didn't know if it would work, since in his previous life the apocalypse had disrupted the city's water systems. He didn't know the exact time period, but he knew Seattle's water systems had stopped working. The group followed behind him, and the girl who was fighting along with Isabel joined them. Milo could faintly remember that the girl was a friend of Isabel's and knew about Isabel's close relationship with him.

Not many people knew about Isabel's close sibling like relationship with Milo, since Isabel was one of the 4 school campus belles, known for their beauty, and Milo was a small loser bullied by everyone. Many times Isabel tried to help Milo in school, however, Milo stopped her because he didn't want her implicated by him. Although Isabel seemed like a fierce girl, only he knew that that was her outer shell. She was actually a kind, timid girl who tried to help everyone. He didn't want her to be bullied because of him.

Fortunately, the faucet was still working. Milo grabbed a handful of water and gently threw it on her face, waiting for her to regain conscious. After a few throws, Isabel opened her eyes, and started thrashing about, screaming, "Get away! Get away!".

Then, she realized that zombies weren't surrounding her, and instead, she was being carried by Milo. Her cheeks blushed and she jumped out of his arms. When she noticed the students crowded around her, her cheeks tinged even redder and quickly asked Milo what had happened. All she could remember was fainting and awaiting her death.

Milo hastily recounted the events. Isabel hadn't believed the story of him killing zombies at first, but when she saw the remains of the zombies outside the restroom, she wondered if what he said was actually true. She found that it was impossible to kill even one zombie alone, but he had just killed several. And even more surprising was the fact that he took less than a minute to do so.

Isabel wondered if the one standing in front of her was really Milo. The Milo she knew was extremely clumsy and not athletic at all. Even though he wasn't strong or handsome, she found him reliable in her times of need. She also found his antics extremely funny and cute.

She looked at the young man in front of her. Although he didn't act like the Milo she knew, his determined gaze and proud back were the same. She was sure he was Milo. She was just extremely curious how he had changed so much.
