Chapter 4 - An Eyesore

Looking at the waving flag high in the sky, Ji Shen felt a wave of excitement hit him.

DZ-1530 was the barrack name.

In simple terms, it meant District 15, Zone 30.

Ji Shen, who was still absorbed in the glorious sight before him, seemed unaware of the countless glares aiming at him.

Just a distance behind him, Chong Tsay and his lackeys were looking at Ji Shen in disdain.

To him, he was an eyesore and a disgrace to the Federation's military force.

How could such a weak good-for-nothing get accepted as an Aclon Soldier?

Many didn't know that Ji Shen's father was a top Special Soldier.

His identity had always been confidential. Information about him was erased from the system.

So in the village, they thought Ji Feng's father was an ordinary person.

And whenever his dad came, people would think that his father was an irresponsible dabbler getting fired from jobs here and there.

Many didn't know that the reason Ji Shen was given another chance was because his father knew he would get into the army. So his men had secretly arrived one of their people to get him in.

Of course, Ji Shen's acceptance was a mystery to all… Especially Chong Tsay.

Chong Tsay was there that day when Ji Shen was getting tested.

After all, they were from the same village.

So they gathered in the same spot for the tests. And for the life of him, Chong Tsay couldn't understand why Ji Shen got accepted.

It was a slap to his face after all the mocking he gave Ji Shen, telling him that he would never be able to get in.

So, of course he was hateful!

Why? Why did this weakling get accepted?

Of course, Chong Tsay had the best results, which were too eye-catching and outstanding for a rookie.

He was one of the few people who had been hyped and offered ridiculous benefits upon his recruitment.

The money given to his family was 5 times more than what regular people got.

Each time a person joined the federation, they would be given a certain amount of money based on their exam results.

The results usually showed where a soldier would most likely go. Some had the abilities to be special soldiers, while others were too weak and would probably get thrown around the army in some inferior department.

Chong Tsay's results were so good that his family was also given a luxurious estate in the nearby city within District 15.

As explained, in this world, Zones were similar to countries, and Districts were similar to Provinces/Prefectures/States.

So each District had several cities, villages and towns within it.

That said, Chong Tsang's tests shocked the decision-makers within District 15.

For a rookie, his body was too good.

He and a few others entered with preferential treatment too.

That said, because of his results, his name had already spread out to many people.

And on the way here, several wanted to hold his golden thighs by being his lackey.

Surprisingly, Ji Shen's new friends, Ran Senko and Lin Chindu, also got in with preferential treatment.

After leaving Ji Shen's village, the military trucks passed by several other towns, villages and cities to pick a few more recruits before coming here.

The duo got picked up from the city.

.

Chong Tsay looked at Ji Shen in disdain as if he were an eyesore.

And his lackeys who were ready to please him hurriedly spoke ill of Ji Shen.

Notably, 2 burly lackeys, Ku Fan and Teng Ghu, quickly smashed their knuckles together as if they wanted to beat Ji Shen up.

"Boss. That guy is a disgrace to us here. "

"That's right! I heard that he knelt and begged for them to give him one more chance."

"I heard that they gave him another chance for some unknown reason, and it was only then that he succeeded in the last physical exam. But fainted afterwards."

"F***! Are the recruiters blind? How can they let such a shameless person in?"

"I bet he can't even do 10 push-ups."

"10? Heh. I bet he can't even do 5!"

"F***! I hope I don't get put in the same dorm room as this guy. What do I do if he drags the entire dorm down?"

"No way! I can't have such a guy as a dorm mate! I'll strangle him in my sleep if that's the case."

"Stupid! Have you forgotten that no fights are allowed? Even if he's weak, if we so much as touch him, then we may get punished, suspended, sent away or have our points lowered."

Listening to the many lackeys around him, Chong Tsay, who had been silent this entire time, finally smiled cruelly.

"The rules do say we can't have internal fights... But what if something happened accidentally? Provided it's not over the top, it can be overlooked, no?"

Everyone who listened immediately understood what their Boss meant.

And soon, they too grinned.

.

As if on cue, one of them playfully advanced towards Ji Shen's left side.

Seeing his move, everyone chicken playfully and slowly walked behind to watch a good show.

The lackey placed his hands in his pockets and strode forward past a few other recruits in high spirits.

If he did this, Chong Tsay would value him more, right?

The lackey strode confidently.

And when he finally got close to Ji Shen, he paused, making sure that there were no superiors or officers around him before looking at Ji Shen's feet.

Left... right. Left... right.

As the good-for-nothing slowly advanced, the lackey carefully timed everything.

Ji Shen had already stepped ahead with his right leg and was about to advance by carrying his left leg forward.

The time was now!

The lackey raised his own leg, planning to hook Ji Shen's left leg and drag it backward, hoping to make Ji Shen do a very painful and awkward split.

But suddenly, Ji Shen, who had been merrily talking with Ran Senko and Lin Chindu, abruptly felt all the hairs on his legs stand up and shift towards a certain direction.

What was this feeling?

Buzz~~

The hairs there seemed to detect micro shifts and violations in the environment around him.

It was as if an intruder disrupted the steady and peaceful airflow around him.

His heart speeded up as the muscles in his jaws clenched.

To him, the air was tense and suffocating.

The wave vibrations around his feet changed too abruptly, causing his entire body to be alert.

His expression turned predatory as time became extremely slow to him.

He saw a fly moving at a drunken slow pace that almost made it seem frozen in the air.

Even the lips of those talking seemed to open and close in slow motion.

He didn't know what had caused the disturbance, but his instincts told him to move now!
