Lu Zhanbei's question was direct and sudden. However, Tong Yi understood it in an instant, and she replied simply, "I want you."
Hearing that, Lu Zhanbei stuffed his hands into his pockets and stared at Tong Yi.
Tong Yi didn't avoid his gaze.
As their eyes met, Lu Zhanbei's mobile phone suddenly rang. He retracted his gaze and fished out his phone. He answered the call as he walked toward a pharmacy some distance away.
Tong Yi was left speechless. 'Did he have to take the call so far away from me? I'm not a spy.'
Tong Yi stayed where she stood and waited for Lu Zhanbei to return. Bored, she took out her phone and started to fiddle with it. She opened WeChat and realized that Lu Zhanbei had already accepted her friend request.
Her lips curled up subconsciously. She had finally gotten hold of his phone number and WeChat. It seemed that she had officially taken a step closer to winning over Lu Zhanbei!
Soon after, Lu Zhanbei came out from the pharmacy. He was holding a small plastic bag bearing the logo of the pharmacy.
Tong Yi frowned. "Is he sick?'
The man walked to her and passed her the bag.
Tong Yi looked confused. "I'm not sick."
Lu Zhanbei's thin lips mumbled the words, "Digestive pills."
As it turned out, he had not gone to the pharmacy to avoid her, but rather to buy her some medicine!
'Could he have stopped here to buy medicine for me?'
Tong Yi suddenly felt that she was being too petty. She took the medicine and said sincerely, "Thank you."
Lu Zhanbei nodded slightly.
Tong Yi took two of the digestive pills, put the rest of the medicine back into the bag, and held it in her hand.
Then, the two continued on their walk.
After walking in silence for a while, Tong Yi remembered what Ling Rui had told her on the phone before she came to Lan City. So, she took the initiative to bring it up to him. "The events on the day of the engagement party spread like wildfire, did you know?"
Lu Zhanbei replied, "Yes."
"Strangely, those rumors disappeared overnight." Tong Yi turned to look at the man who was half a head taller than her, hoping to find some clues from his expression.
However, the man's expression did not change.
He seemed to sense her gaze and turned to look at her. "What are you trying to say?"
Tong Yi retracted her gaze as she suddenly felt that she was being quite silly. How could a shrewd person like Lu Zhanbei show his emotions on his face?
"Did you have a hand in it?"
"Yes."
Tong Yi stopped in her tracks and looked at Lu Zhanbei in surprise. She had not expected him to admit it so directly. "Why did you help me?"
Lu Zhanbei stopped as well. "To return the favor."
Tong Yi was stunned for a few seconds before she realized what he meant by returning the favor.
She had gone to the police station to save him. In return, he had helped her suppress those negative news and comments.
She had only spent one million to save him, but how could one million be enough to suppress the news?
"Your gift is too valuable."
Lu Zhanbei raised his eyebrows slightly. "Compared to devoting one's body to another, it's not expensive."
Tong Yi was speechless. Did he mean he was worried that she would use the excuse of saving his life to make him marry her?
Okay, she admitted that that thought had indeed crossed her mind, but she did not want his body in exchange for her help, she wanted his hand in marriage.
"Get in."
"Huh?" Tong Yi was confused.
Lu Zhanbei lifted his chin slightly and pointed behind Tong Yi.
Tong Yi turned around. A black Cayenne had stopped by the roadside. "Where are we going?"
Lu Zhanbei walked toward the car. "Didn't you say you wanted to go out for a tour?"
Tong Yi recalled what she had said to Lu Zhanbei when she had left the elevator yesterday.
"This is my first time in Lan City. Can you show me around in the afternoon?"
She remembered that he had rejected her without hesitation.
Why had he suddenly changed his mind?
