Isomara could do nothing but stare as a giant Koi darted towards him through the darkness. He could feel its mouth begin to close around him before his eyes flew open as he yelped out "Please, I'll never eat sushi again!" Isomara looked around in confusion, "this isn't the inside of a fish."
Isomara felt something sniff him from behind as an increasingly familiar voice came into his mind "Brother really has become damaged hasn't he?" Isomara would've blushed if he could at his embarrassment, jumping up in surprise.
"No, no I just thought I died was all! You gotta believe me bro, I'm fit as a fiddle!" Isomara said trying to play it off. But his brother had already left, crouching over something a few feet away. Isomara coughed, collecting himself before going to inspect what the fur-ball was doing. His nose told him before his eyes, sprinting over with his mouth salivating he looked at the mostly eaten koi in front of him. Quickly scanning the area he saw what he was afraid of. A fish skeleton lay a few feet from where they were at. "You bastard!" Isomara yelled as he flung himself forward, kicking his brother in the face, sending him flying. "You were just gonna eat both the fish to yourself?! I thought we had a brotherly bond." Isomara cried.
"I thought brother broke so I didn't want it to go to waste." He replied innocently.
"But you started eating it again even after I woke up!"
"Yeah because it was so good."
"You could've at least pretended to be sorry you know." Isomara sighed, there was going to be no getting through to him. At least there was a quarter left on this fish, he thought as he bent forward to eat it. Its no different than sashimi Isomara convinced himself before taking a bite. It was juicy but didn't taste raw, and the flavor was mouthwatering. The dull voice rang once again, "Koi that have undergone the fire evolution don't need to be cooked since their insides become naturally steamed." Hmm, the system could even tell him info about the creatures in more ways than he could imagine it seemed. He took another bite of the fish, I'm definitely going to have to experiment more, it could mean the difference between life and death sometime.
Finishing the last of the fish with a burp, Isomara sat down now with a full stomach. His brother came over and sat down next to him with a question. "What are we going to eat next brother?" Isomara glanced incredulously at his brother, how he could ask that after eating close to two huge fish was astounding. Isomara shook his head collecting his thoughts.
"I don't know, but we'll look around the area after we digest this food."
"Di- what? Whatever I'll start looking while you do damaged brother things." He said before running off.
"Yeah I'm the damaged brother." He yelled sarcastically after him to no response. Of course, whatever I just wanted a moment to look at my stats since to confirm what he saw after the last fight. His status screen popped up and immediately confirmed it, but his jaw fell open, he was level FOUR! Well then again it does make sense, remembering the koi were level fifteen. Honestly I feel a little cheated. Wait, I guess I did only beat one, so I guess my bro probably leveled up also after killing the last one. Whatever lets talk stats.
Name- N/A
Level- 4
Race- Black Pup
Title- N/A
HP- 25/25
MP- 26/26
Strength- 12
Agility- 13
Stamina- 11
Spirit- 13
Intelligence- 3
Stat Points Available- 6
Interesting, so whenever I level up all my stats go up by one. My health went up over double so I guess ten really was bottom of the barrel, no wonder I almost died from that little. But I guess it makes sense since level one seems to mean newborn. And it seems that spirit affects my MP and it seems each point increases it by two. I guess that makes sense since his brother only had two with a single spirit point. Now I'm entering the world of speculation. It would seem that some skills enhance stats such as swimming increasing my strength stat passively. Now if this was an MMO it would probably mean the opposite is true in that stats will affect the effectiveness of abilities.
Luckily there was a way to check. Isomara swapped the page to his skills and his suspicion was partly confirmed.
Bite- 3 MP- The next bite of the user will be 15% stronger upon activation of this skill.
Dash- 1 MP every 15 seconds- User's speed increases 18% upon activation of this skill.
Menace- 5 MP- Stuns target on eye contact after the activation of this skill.
Swimming Lvl 3- Passively increases swim speed by 60% (+1 Str)
Sneaking Lvl 2- Passively increases sneak speed by 55%
So it looks like my bite strength was increased by 5% since I gained four strength, raising from eight to twelve, a 50% increase in stats and ability effectiveness. But it seemed that my dash only raised three percent meaning it computes stats differently than Bite does in that it only raises 1% per point. It also looks like when I discover a passive stat it begins at a 50% increase which must be why I noticed such a major increase upon their notification. But a 5% increase afterward definitely seems more like the norm. Well since the voice hasn't spoken up this entire time I guess it wont be of any help when it comes to my stats. "Nope" the voice rang out. Okay, Isomara nodded collecting all his thoughts about what he wants to do with all his precious stat points. Man this system stuff is really complicated what should I do...
The phantom breath of the koi tickled the fur on his tail as the memory of almost becoming koi chow came to mind. The ghost of the buzzing wings of insects echoed in his ear. Without a second thought Isomara put all his points into agility. Never again will he be too slow to avoid his demise. Isomara nodded in approval at the now nineteen agility points. Huh my health also went up six points, does it go up per stat point increase instead of just levels? If that's the case I'll be a third tankier than anything my level because of the extra stat point I get because of Token of Fenrir. Wait on that note, I was at ten agility before I leveled up, does that mean I'm almost two times as fast now?
Isomara stood up and did some puppy stretches, yawning as he went from downward dog to seal pose. Okay time to see how fast I can go. Crouching down as though on a starting block he kicked off, dashing toward where his brother had wandered off toward becoming a black blur. Isomara could feel the wind blowing into his face, tickling his whiskers, the feeling of euphoria rushing through him as his paws flew across the ground. He was definitely way faster than he was, and he loved every bit of it. If it felt this good going that fast I can only imagine how amazing sticking my head out a car window would feel. Isomara skidded to a halt in horror. I am becoming a bit too much like a dog, I need to get a hold of myself before I started sniffing my bro's butt. Isomara shuttered at the thought.
Speaking of his bro's butt, Isomara had spotted his furry black rear end poking out of a bush nearby a cluster of trees a little farther up from where Isomara had stopped. Better go check on him before he eats a poisonous mushroom, Isomara thought before padding on over to him.
