"Excuse me, what did you just say?" Joan asked Chloe, thinking she didn't hear her well the first time.
"You asked if I was traveling, and I said I'm here to stay," Chloe replied, still smiling.
"You are here to stay? How? Why?" Joan asked all at once as she tried not to give room to the thought that was coming to her mind. "I'm sorry what did you say your name was again?" Joan asked her.
Chloe rolled her eyes, "Chloe," she said.
Then it hit her, Joan suddenly remembered where she had heard that name before, Chloe was the lady that answered Steve's phone the night that she called him to find out why he wasn't back from work yet.
Joan looked at Chloe in shock, this used to be Steve's mistress when they both had an open marriage. She looked at the woman's protruding abdomen, was this pregnancy Steve's? She looked at Chloe's face and got the answer to her question. Joan felt a sinking feeling in her chest.
