A moment later she parked her car in front of the fast-food and looked around for Steve's car before heading inside the restaurant, "Just be your usual chatty self Jo, sex isn't a big deal to your bestie, so it shouldn't be any different with you," She muttered to herself, and curved her lips in a smile when her eyes met Steve's as she made her way to where he was seated.
"Hi!" Steve greeted as he looked her over. He couldn't help remembering what those boobs had felt like in his hands. 'Focus Steve! You have more important things to worry about at the moment' He cautioned himself.
"Hi!" Joan said as she sat down opposite him, "I hope I didn't keep you waiting for too long?" She asked with an apologetic smile.
"Not longer than I kept you waiting yesterday." Steve said, and immediately regretted saying that since it seemed to remind them both of what they had done yesterday.
"You won't believe I haven't had anything to eat all day! I'm so hungry. I should go get something," Joan said and quickly stood up.
Steve knew her well enough to know she was nervous, "Sit down Jo. Tell me what you want and I will go get it. I haven't eaten all day either. And I doubt I would have been able to eat even if I tried," Steve said with a sigh.
"A plate of fried rice, salad and turkey will be just fine," She said with an easy smile.
"Water, right?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, I will be right back," He said as he stood up and headed for the food counter.
"Are you not taking anything?" She asked when he returned carrying a tray of all she had requested, with nothing for himself.
"I already told you I can't eat."
"The idea of marrying me must repulse you really much to make you lose your appetite," She said casually, earning her a scowl from him.
"That is not it and you know it."
"Relax! I was just kidding," she said, flashing him a toothy smile before picking up her spoon to eat.
"You're not worried? Doesn't this whole thing upset you?" He asked in confusion as he watched her eat.
"I should add ulcer pain to the current problem?" She asked trying to maintain a perfect composure. He was obviously upset enough for two, and that was good enough for her. If only he could direct this whole annoyance at their parents, it would be cool.
"I guess some things are important than others," He muttered under his breath and leaned back in his seat as he watched her.
"You talked with your father?" She asked, and he nodded.
"What about you?"
"I went home. They said the same thing. It's not a joke. Four adults sat down together and made a decision on our behalf," She said incredulously as she ate.
"You won't believe my father even asked me to submit my resignation letter and move out of the apartment if I don't do it. He even threatened to freeze my accounts on ground of embezzlement! Can you fucking believe that?" Steve asked with a humorless laughter making Joan's eyes widen in disbelief.
"Your father really said all that?"
"He did. And threatened Lillian to convince me otherwise she would lose everything. What is wrong with them?" He asked in a slightly raised voice, attracting attention to their table.
"You're shouting. Calm down," Joan said as she looked around them in embarrassment. "Did he happen to tell you why?" She asked thoughtfully.
"No reason will be enough to justify this madness! This is absolute nonsense!" Steve hissed in annoyance making Joan suddenly want to laugh.
"I understand how you feel. But maybe we should find out why they came up with this crazy idea," she suggested.
"How do you propose we do that?"
"How about we meet them separately? You meet with my father and I meet with yours?" She asked.
"Why not just call a general meeting and talk to them all a once?" Steve asked with a scowl.
"I'm sure they would be expecting us to do that. So let's do something they don't expect instead. That way we take them unaware and find out the truth from them without having to deal with them all at the same time."
"I suppose you have a point," Steve murmured.
"Of course I do."
"About last night... No, just listen." Steve said, raising a finger to shut her up when she opens her mouth to stop him.
"I'm sorry. I took advantage of you and that wasn't cool. You were upset and tipsy and I shouldn't have made such a move. It was stupid, considering you're my best friend. I really don't want things to be awkward between us, so can we forget it happened and get past it?" He asked, looking directly at Joan.
"I'm sure even if we forget it, our mothers won't forget it," Joan said with a giggle, trying to lighten the mood, and thankfully Steve chuckled.
"Yeah. I think that's going to make things even more difficult since they now believe we have something between us," Steve said with a sigh.
"We will get through this, I'm sure. Let's just see them tomorrow, and then we will know what to do after that," Joan assured him.
"You always come up with good ideas, it's no wonder you're my best girl."
"Yeah, and you come up with all the crazy ideas. We compliment each other really well," Joan said jocularly, but realized it wasn't really a joke, it was the truth. They did compliment each other in so many ways. Joan avoided his gaze as she returned her attention to her food instead.
Steve watched his beautiful bestie as she ate and couldn't help but wonder what she had meant by 'the sex wasn't so bad'
