Chapter 10 - I now pronounce you vanished

I got home from work and Dimitri called to give me a heads up. So I took the backpack I prepared and got out as fast as I could. I had already destroyed all my drawings. It broke my heart that I had to do that but considering what would happen if I get caught I felt it was better destroyed than in their hands. I got as far as the taxi stand when the Feds drove by with NCIS to my place. I had moved out of Aby and Ben's place to a place of my own.

I decided to play paranoia and get the Feds off my back. I mean what proof do they have? None. I have proven them to be certified idiots time and time again. Now it was time for round two. I got back to the apartment before they arrived and was pretending to do yoga. They saw the door was opened so they came in and I screamed Aliens. Dimitri almost burst out laughing he had forgotten that I had beaten the Feds before. He had trouble keeping a straight face the entire time. I happily left with the Aliens in exchange for peace for the Earth creatures. Dimitri had to press his lips together to stop himself from laughing. He knows if he does that it proves to both of them that I am faking.

I got to the headquarters they tested me from morning till evening. And they were unable to prove anything. In the end they had to leave. Dimitri explained that I have Paranoid Schizophrenia. He likes me because despite all of that madness I never stopped loving him. Even though he now sports a badge and a gun. I saw his badge and dove under the table and stared at him as though he has sprouted two heads, horns, and his skin was replaced with feathers on them. He chuckled and he carried me out and we waited till we away before we burst out laughing.

The next morning I walked out to go to work. I saw that the FBI was parked outside. I calmly walked to the diner and started my work. I did text Dimitri to let him know that I was tailed. He came around lunchtime and he waved a warrant at the FBI and they left. I knew they will back the next day. They are on a mission to disprove my claim. I slipped this fact and he promised to take care of it. By closing time he was back. I was escorted to a hospital for a seventy-two-hour examination. This means my meds are inaccessible for the time being.

I asked for a straight jacket since I could get violent depending on my hallucinations. They obliged and I was examined at length. I was shown Rorschach inkblots. They asked me about my life. I was kept in insolation and I was also allowed to draw. I doodled a building on fire, a dock that was blown up and a car that was flipped upside down and its doors were missing. I even drew a man dragging a woman out of a river. She looked unconscious and could be suffering from hypothermia. They looked at my drawings and asked me why I drew such depressing drawings. I was asked to draw things of positive nature instead of these dismal scribbles.

The doctor gave me the certifiable weirdo card and I was allowed to go home. We celebrated but I felt things were about to get worse

I woke to the alarm and walked downstairs for breakfast. Dimitri was waiting for me. He looked distressed so I flit into his mind. He wanted to know if the man he caught was guilty or not. I sat down and searched hard. What I saw was shocked me. This was a game from the FBI to prove I had the gift. They guessed correctly that I had confided in him. So they are trying to force him to make me do it. I explained the situation and he took care of it.

I sat down with a charcoal pencil and paper. I started to draw a house that was half torn down. I was half finished when I saw Aby running to me asking me pack my stuff. I got up when Aby actually showed up so I asked why I should pack my stuff. She explained that the Feds was caught on their ruse and they decided to arrest Dim. So her husband called her to get me out. Things were getting bad so I had to disappear. I took my drawings and asked to burn them. She did that as I packed my go bag. I racked my mind to find a place to go. The only places that came to mind was Ocracoke in North Carolina, Block Island in Rhode Island and Cannon Beach in Oregon. My family had friends Edisto in Carolina otherwise that is where I would go. Aby recommended a place in San Juan Island called Friday Harbour. She can contact me when it is safe but in the end we both agreed that Ocracoke was the best option for me.

I snuck out the back as both Aby and her husband provided cover. I got on the greyhound bus and reached a train station where I changed my appearance to that of a goth. I hopped on three trains, two buses, and a boat to get there. The people were reserved at the prospect of a new addition since the last move in residents was a drama that brought bad press. The village was filled with places I can go easily on foot. So I had no trouble with that. The job hunt took me half a day. But once that was settled I found myself a nice cozy one room apartment to stay. I had to get the message to Aby. She and I discussed ways to make sure we can communicate if we separate. I got her a burner phone before I left. I promised to call her the moment I get settled. I took a breathe and called. I made it clear she must not ask me where I am. It is possible her house is bugged so if I called say it was Penn on line. She and Ben agreed to my terms. We even figured out which burner phones are real and which are trick phones from the FBI. The conversation lasted half an hour and I hung up. I promised to tell her where I am when I feel it is safe. She wished me luck and hung up.
