"The entry test is usually a game of tag or something similar. It's always something with running and reaction time testing. My year we had to track down and tag an ex military official. He knew of coarse and played along but man was it tough. Only three people passed that year out of the few hundred who applied."
"Last years happened to be called three keys. They hid three keys all across the city, giving some to people and just plain hiding others, but overall it was horrendous because you couldn't pass if you didn't get the keys and fighting other competitors was allowed so it was incredibly difficult. "
"Wait what is the actual benefits of joining this organization if so many people are trying to get in?" Rick Asked
"Well... There are a lot of benefits. For instance as soon as you join you gain access to a pretty decent skill book of your choice. Not only that but you also get access to a venders, fences, and tons of other things. The most important thing is that your name goes on the board for the top Thieves in the organization and depending where you are on their depends on what rewards you get for your missions as well as what missions you can get. The benefits just go on and on really. I'm only in the top 10,000 for the organization but their are probably close to 60,000 members across the world."
Rick pondered for a moment on all the benefits when something began to confuse him.
"Skill books? I've heard of vendors and fences but not skill books."
"Ah of coarse. I thought everyone had heard of the Legendary Skill books."
"Well anyway they are effectively books filled with methods on gaining and leveling up a skill. I'm sure the term 'leveling' may confuse as it's something many common people don't know about."
"Skills have levels to their power just like your speed and such and growing stronger usually is represented by 'leveling up'. Now the average person can't see their levels or abilities but only feel it by gut intuition. Once you reach Tier 5 though that changes. You gain the ability to see your own 'status', which is what they call it, and see others as well."
"It's fairly nifty isn't it?"
Ricks mouth was left wide open in shock.
'People here have access to systems?!'
"Y-Yeah there pretty nifty alright..."
"What's wrong?" Lucas asked.
"N-Nothing. It's just that... how do they get this power?"
"Well it's actually just a skill. It's called inspect. It's incredibly strong and most people can only learn it at Tier 5 and up. "
'Oh my lord! I was so scared. It was just a skill all along.' Rick thought as he let out a sigh of relief.
"Well we better rest some. It's gonna be a long day tomorrow." Lucas said before heading inside the orphanage promptly passing out at the side of a pew.
Rick nodded to himself before checking his status to see if he gained any levels or anything similar.

He headed out to the back of the church and spent the next two hours practicing his hand to hand combat skill. After what seemed like forever he managed to get a level up after many hours of practice.
Rick quickly wiped his sweat covered brow and checked the skills new abilities.

It was a qualitive bonus and it seemed like it would help him quite a bit during the upcoming test if it required combat skills.
'Man it's only been three days and I've already improved so much! It must be the systems doing... I can't wait until tomorrow.'

He awoke to the sound of a knock directly by his face. He quickly turned the opposite way from the knock to see Lucas staring at him comically.
"Um... You were supposed to turn the other way so I could knee you in the back again..."
"My disciple is truly a quick learner." Lucas said out loud.
"Get up and eat this." He said before throwing a bag of assorted fruits and bread at him, hard in the stomach.
"Your gonna need the strength. The location has finally been revealed and it's at the town square for some reason. Apparently it's gonna be a public stunt this time." Lucas said with a worried look in his eyes.
Ricks eyes sparkled nonetheless as he stared at the food in front of him.
' A feast for such a joyous day. That top position will definitely be mine! '
