Chapter 1 - Wait What?

Crunch, crunch, crunch. My heart is beating out of my chest as I hear footsteps getting closer and closer. There is no where else I can go. "Come out" I hear someone whisper. It sounds like a grown men's voice. Why oh why is this happening to me? Why did I ever do to him? Trying to not make a pep. Closer and closer they get. I have to make a run for it otherwise I don't think I will get out of here alive. I start to take off not looking back. They are chasing me. I cannot see anything, it is pitch black at night in the woods. Trying to dodge trees by my remembrance of the this wooded area. But it was not good enough. I ran into a tree going full speed and plunge to the ground. My head gushing with blood. Footsteps keep getting closer but I cannot move. All the sudden I sit up out of breath. I look over at my clock and it is two in the morning. I was in my own bedroom, safe. It must have been a nightmare.

Ding, Ding. My alarm went off. I squinted my eyes to see that it was seven o'clock. Time to get up and ready for school. I put on my uniform, khakis and a button up shirt and combed my hair to the left side. My heart is still pounding from the nightmare I had last night. I eat breakfast and went to school. I couldn't tell my friends about the scariest dream I have every had. Sitting in class my imagination took me to another world. Thinking about what would have really happened if that is was not a dream. "Karter, Karter!" My teacher said louder each time. Suddenly my mind came back. "Here." I quickly said back. But I couldn't stop thinking about that dream! It seemed to real to be a dream. The school day finally came to and end and my friend Patrick invited me over to play. We played baseball and basketball but I just could not focus. My mind kept going back to the dream that I had. The day light faded slowly into night. In the light of the moon I headed home. Going through the woods with my eyes on watch. Every sound I heard I made sure no one was there until…

All the sudden I heard footsteps and not animal footsteps, human footsteps. All the sudden I found myself running with about half a mile still to go to my house. And the footsteps got louder like they were chasing after me. It felt like I was running for the longest time and still could not see my house and the footsteps did not get any weaker. I had to stop and take a break but where? I have gasping for a breath. Asthma really does not help me. I slid behind a tree that I could see which was about I step away. It is pitch black out here with nothing but trees. The footsteps got softer and all the sudden I heard a grown mans voice say "come out." It was soft but loud enough to hear. He was a few steps away. I was trying to make a pep. This was exactly like my dream! I had to use my inhaler though. I knew it was going to make a loud sound so I was prepared to run right away. 1, 2, 3. I took my inhaler as quick as possible and started running. The man was not far behind. Sprinting in the direction I think was home but could not quite tell. Going by my remembrance of the woods. But I didn't remember it good enough. I hit the tree, falling hard to the ground. I could hear the footsteps keep coming towards me but there was nothing I could do. There was blood gushing from my head with nothing to stop it. All the sudden I hear my moms voice. "Carter, Carter, CARTER!" I wanted to tell her I was here but couldn't choke it out. Instead lying in my own blood.

Beep.. Beep.. Beep.. I woke up. I was alive! My eyes opened just the slightest bit but enough for my mom to call in a nurse. 28 stitches I had to get in my head, I had a broken arm, a fractured hip and my knees were bruised up pretty bad but I was alive. Day by day my recovery was a little better. My mom told me she found me lying there with a man by me. She scared him off though. She got a clear view of his face and the next day the found the guy and sent him away. Not knowing what he was going to do to me I was thanking my mom more than I have in my lifetime. She had just saved my life! Well isn't that what moms are for? I mean other than cleaning the dishes.
