Chapter 3 - The Movie Incident (3)

As Holly and her friends entered the cinema she was overwhelmed with the smell of buttery popcorn and sugary goods. "The smell of this place never ceases to amaze me." Kassie stated as she took a deep breathe in.

As they walked down the isle of seats inspecting where the best spot is, Josh tried to hold Kassies hand, but she swatted it away. Holly frowned. This was unusual for them. Holly has never seen them decline each other's affectionate actions. "I have come to a verdict." Kassie stated dramatically. "We shall sit in the middle row on the far left for the ultimate view and enjoyment." Kassie stated as she pushed Holly into the correct isle. Holly sat closest to edge, with Kassie in the middle and Josh on the right of Kassie.

As the movie progressed, Holly noticed that Josh kept trying to hold Kassies hand but she'd move away. She frowned. In all the time she'd known them Kassie had never done this. She shrugged and turned back to the movie.

Holly felt a hand grab hers, she looked down and saw Kassie holding her hand. She was confused, wasn't Kassie straight? Holly looked at Kassie and frowned. Kassie just smiled and gripped onto her hand tighter. Holly felt like she was betraying Josh, yet she had wanted to hold Kassies hand for as long as she could remember. Was this just a ploy to get back at Josh? Or did Kassie really feel this way about her? Holly was flooded with thoughts and the pounding of her heart in her ears that she couldn't focus on the rest of the movie.

The lights came back on, signalling the movie was over. Holly felt fuzzy and warm, yet sick. She couldn't shake the feeling as if she'd betrayed Josh. "Wasn't that a great movie?" Kassie asked both of them. Josh just grunted and death glared Holly. "Yeah... I guess." Holly replied. Josh was very agitated and Holly could tell. "Do you need a lift home Holly?" Josh asked. Hollys heart broke, for months Josh had always called Holly, 'Hols." Like how he called Kassie, Kas. Hols and Kas, he'd say whenever referring to them. Holly knew she'd screwed up, but what had she done? Kassie was the one who made the move, not her. "Yeah... that'd be great. Thanks Josh."

As Holly sat in the red car, watching the street lamps go by, she felt odd. Like she was just a germ, a type of pest. Kassie and Josh were arguing about something, Holly didn't know what though. She was too focused on her thoughts and the view outside. She counted the trees and houses as they flashed by.

Finally they had reached her house. "We'll see you at school tomorrow?" Kassie asked. "Yeah.. sure. Cya Kas and Josh." Holly said trying to be friendly with Josh. Josh just glared at Holly. Holly knew she had screwed up big time.
