After chasing the man away, Makenna glared daggers at Amaya. For some reason, he needed to blame someone for this, and Amaya was the perfect candidate. Amaya and Nero can be said to be friends of some sort, and even if they weren't, their relationship can still be considered good. Connecting the dots, it could be that Amaya had a way to communicate information to Nero, telling him everything about Makenna's plan to catch him. If this was considered, then it meant that Nero was always a step ahead with Amaya's help.
"You little witch! You dare betray me!?" Makenna roared.
Amaya could feel the killing intent envelop her, making her weak to her knees. She tried to speak but just then, Makenna grabbed her by the neck.
"Do I look like a fool to you? And to think I let you live this long, I should just kill you right now and get it over with!"
