Chapter 6 - Work of the Devil

We are now in front of the dull colorless building with a big welcome board sign reading 'Central London Police'. Kathy combed her hair back to a tight bun and wore a more modest dress that went below her knees. I still felt a little saddened that she still somehow considers some of this as her fault.

She walked in and was greeted by a receptionist who leads her inside the office. Throughout the ride there I kept looking for a certain unwanted demon. He still hasn't appeared yet albeit I can tell he would most likely make an appearance soon.

"Why I see you made it!", the officer who dropped her home last night came to receive her.

"Yes, I felt its important to get it over with", she smiled brightly the moment she saw him.

"Well I already knew you are a brave lady but I still find it commendable".

Along the way, he introduced himself as George Philip Simone and asked for her name. He reassured her that it won't be difficult and all she had to do was answer all questions asked with conviction.

He made her sit in front of a burly mustache man who was typing very heavily onto his desktop. He must be punching those keys with a 5-ton newton force per letter. He must be passionate about his job. The nameplate on the desk had 'Charleston Romera' printed in block letters.

"So Charles, take her statement and her ID proof copy. After that send her to me. Okay?", the officer patted Charles twice on the shoulder and went into an inner compartment with a golden board outside of it. Looks like he must be the head of this department. Damn, that guy seems like a good catch for our Kathy. Hope he is single.

"Kathy Rosalie Harper is your full name, right?". Charles inquired monotonously. Looks like Charles started with the interrogation.

Kathy began to explain her side of the story and she clearly stated everything that had occurred. I scanned the whole room once to see if there is any possible threats and left Kathy. The inquiry will take time and anyway I have another mission on my mind. I just need to find those trash men and check if my theory about the demon manipulating them was right or not.

I crossed the main reception area and went through a long corridor and found many jail cells. I started to scan the faces of the inmates but no one seemed familiar. Are they also being questioned somewhere?

"It's the WORK of the DEVIL! I have no hand in this!".

The voice came from a room marked 'Interrogation'. It won't hurt to pop my head just to check. No one can see me regardless. Except if the devil was there then I can ask if I can join his company. Well, I'll ask for better benefits than what God said he would give.

I passed right through the door and found a man who looked like our trash 1 from yesterday sitting there with two police officers at the opposite side of the table from him. The room looked exactly how you would imagine an interrogating room would look with one single bulb light hanging from the ceiling and a little table with two chairs facing. I shifted my station to trash 1 solely. He looked unkempt. He must be on some heavy medication or he found an unending supply of wine like God. His pupils were dilated and he was wearing the same dress as yesterday.

"We are asking you again Samuel what was your motive with the weapon?", one of the officers asked he sighed exhaustedly.

"I'm tellin' ya the knife is for ma safety. I didn't want anything from that girl! It's the devil's work! He was whispering tongues with me".

The demon was full of crap when he said that he had nothing to do with his 'actions'. He was clearly present at yesterday's event and might have heightened Samuels's inner thoughts.

The officers were writing something on their respective files and one of them got up and left after nodding at his other partner. I can only make out few words from their report and those words were 'delusional', 'intoxicated', and 'attempted murder'.

"Okay Samuel we already talked to your other buddies and the incident is noted down pretty clearly. You will have a court hearing in a week so have a lawyer ready. But I doubt anything can improve your situation when you already have previous claims of rape on your name.", the officer got up, handcuffed Samuel, and together left the room.

I felt shocked when I heard that. This guy was a rapist. The demon was trying to get a rapist after Kathy. I was taking this very lightly than I should have. I have to thank God that it didn't escalate that far. I felt fear for Kathy and she already has a lot to deal with all that happened yesterday.

I hurriedly made my way to Kathy. The demon being after her is no joke. But when I got there it already was too late. The demon was standing right before her. Her questioning must have been completed because now she was talking to George, the officer from yesterday.

"What are you doing here?", after my recent discovery I felt sickened by his presence.

"Nothing in particular. What about you? Nice weather isn't it", he shrugged off my question and even dared to have small talk with me.

I glared at him. In the short time that I have met him, I already know there is no point in talking to him. I changed my attention towards Kathy.

"So do you have a ride home?", George asked Kathy.

"No, I was planning to take the bus back home. Also before I forget.", she handed a clothed satchel to George, "-thank you for lending me this yesterday. Means a lot."

George opened the satchel to reveal his police jacket all fresh and clean, smelling like fabric softener.

"This is the cleanest it has ever been!", George looked so delighted.

"For this, I have to make sure you get home safe!". George went back into what I assume must be his office.

"He seems like such a charming fellow", the demon opened his mouth after George left.

The demon was floating mid-air with his legs on top of each other like how one would sleep on the poolside bench.

"It's hard to talk to guys like him you know? Too stubborn for their good. They have such a one-sided view of justice. Supreme heroes of the day. When they get to save someone they feel like their life is worth more than everyone else", he continued to speak. He is so full of himself. Here I'm trying to ignore him and he keeps blabbering about something I wasn't paying attention to. All I kept thinking about was what he was planning to do to Kathy. I have to protect her somehow.

"Sorry to make you wait.", George made it back with his car keys and an overall.

"Oh no, it's okay", Kathy smiled. She kept adjusting her hair and checking if her hair was in the right place or not. Any outsider could see her and notice she had hots for a certain police officer.

I looked over towards the demon to see if he noticed that. The demon was staring at me and when our eyes met, he winked. Goat brain! Who are you winking at huh? I kept my cool and continued to ignore him.

George and Kathy made their way towards the car. The demon and I were keeping a close distance. George opened the side door for Kathy and gesture her to sit by slightly bending and stretching one of his arms out. The demon scuffled and rolled his eyes.

Of course, he wouldn't like well-mannered people. This demon was just a nuisance to be with.

George and Kathy kept talking throughout the ride. On the other hand, we were sitting right behind them. The topic of their discussion seems to change with every three statements exchanged. They started with what type of detergent she used to how the interrogation went then went on to where George lived and what they ate for breakfast.

"I legit live 2 streets away from your place", he beamed while talking, "So if you need anything I can make it to your place in just five minutes."

Kathy liked that he was planning to still keep her in contact. She was looking for chances to advance their relationship. This seemed very adorable and I was cheering for them from the start.

"This development between them seems unhealthy.", the demon must have sensed something. Regardless of my ill feelings towards him, I simply can't ignore whatever he says.

"Why is it unhealthy?", I asked.

"Well, why don't you look at Mr. Perfects' hands."

I did and somebody already put a ring on him.
