"Souji!" My body jumped at the sound of my name. "What do you want, oh and what time is it?" I asked. Standing in front of my desk was a furious teacher, Mrs. Fanican. "Come see me after class." I had fallen asleep. Great, I thought while rubbing my eye from my little nap. Now I was in trouble, for the 6th time this week. Same place, same teacher, same classroom. I hate socializing.
"Souji, has been falling asleep in my classes lately." My teacher told the principal. Dragonash Middle was the only middle school in this village. "I see, Souji, please take a seat." I nodded and sat down in the chair in front of me. As my principal blabbered on about how I was expected to act, my mind wandered off into my thoughts.
"Do you understand Souji?" Huh? Did someone say something? "SOUJI!" My eyes shot open. I had fallen asleep again, but this time, it wasn't just in front of my teacher. I had fallen asleep during my principal's lecture. "Sorry, please continue," I said. My principal sighed, "Souji, I'm afraid I will have to call Mrs. Home. You've caused too much trouble for the teachers here, and I think it's time to get her involved." Mrs. Home was the daughter of the nice widow lady that raised me. She was a bit more strict than the widow lady though. "No, don't," I protested, "Mrs. Home is going to lecture me for days if she find out!" It was too late. He had already dialed the number.
Later when I got home, I was lectured for hours. Mrs. Home
was furious. "Souji, when will you start to take things seriously? This is not good for you. What if you get expelled?" She bit her lip. "It's fine I won't," I said trying to brighten the mood, but I already knew it wasn't. Mrs. Home stared at me, I could tell she was livid. "HOW ARE YOU SO SURE?!" She then realized what she had done and turned away. Feeling troubled, I ran to my room. Why couldn't I just be normal and just pay attention at school? I questioned myself for hours until I finally fell asleep.
When I woke up the next morning, I could tell that Mrs. Home was giving me the silent treatment. The nice widow lady had been sick in bed lately, so I was just me and Mrs. Home who were in the kitchen. She slipped my lunch onto the table and gave me a grilled cheese sandwich for breakfast. I quickly gobbled it up and ran to school.
By the time I reached Dragonash Middle, I was out of breath. I rushed to my classroom, barely making it before the bell rang. Whew! I thought as I plopped down into my seat. Throughout the day, I tried to cause as little trouble as I could, although it was quite a struggle I managed to be a decent student for a day. I did it! I thought as I walked home from school. Maybe, this is the start for me. The start, of an ordinary life, for an ordinary person.
