Chapter 64 - A Girl's Resistance to Fate

In the holy kingdom of Santuria's capital city, a young was walking around with multiple guards designated to protect her. She was moving pretty much incognito except that people are accompanying her. She felt uncomfortable as sometimes the gazes of the guards sometimes creep her out. She maintained her composure and wandered with the guards silently. After her stroll, she went to the cathedral and took off her hood. She was a girl with long, light brown hair that's tied in twin tails reaching down to her waist. With a slender and thin body type with clothes of a cute young lady. The girl moved to her personal quarters and drank tea alone. With a soft voice, she looked up to the morning sky filled with sadness. "I wonder... If a fate much better than this will come to me...?" She constantly grieved over the fact of not being able to enjoy her life as much as the people around her. It was then that one person who was working as a maid knocked on the door. "Come in..." The maid entered the room with one one more person who has clothing of a templar. "[Hero of Ascension]... What brings you here? O hero Axel Batal?" The person in templar clothing, referred as the hero Batal lowered his head lightly and greeted the girl. "It has been a while, O Deaconess. I believe I am here to discuss about the discussion from last meeting. In terms of the traditions you are to perform the ritual on your sixteenth birthday which is coming within this month. To mix your blood with the country and the holy land." The girl who was referred to as Deaconess couldn't say anything. She didn't understand a single thing about it and simply nodded. Axel informed the maid to leave the room which was obeyed instantly. Axel's age was somewhat similar to the Deaconess but was three years older, he had splendid poker face which made the Deaconess hesitate whether to probe in with her questions. "Axel..." In the end, she decided to probe in. "What should I do in the ritual?" Axel closed his eyes and pretended to think before coming up with an answer that he commonly used. "I don't really know... But surely, the pope, your mother will instruct you on what to do so there's no need to worry alright?" The Deaconess hung her head down while feeling a lot of worries. She was never given a chance to read history books as there are only pictures and stories of this world's creation. There are times where she began to fantasize about living the way of the civilians. It was then that she heard that people from another world have been summoned around six months ago, close to seven months. She was interested in their way of life, and wanted to see them for herself. Even the news of one person defeating an entire hero's party alone. Stopping armies with just a handful of people, and becoming an independent country. The recollection of the news and information got her even more depressed and asked Axel to leave. "Axel, please do your tasks for the day and not worry about me... Can you call the maid that left just a moment ago...?" Axel nodded while showing a bit of a sharp gaze. "I will be sure to do so, O Deaconess." After Axel left, the maid once again entered the room and bowed her head down to the Deaconess. "Kellia, can you give me an update about the people of [Preeliance]? I would like to know if there are chances of somebody from there to come..." Kellia was carrying some documents which made her check immediately. The Deaconess looked out to the window once again while waiting for the answer. "They recently performed exhibition matches... Their emperor won against the three challengers which are named: [The Three Archons]. I didn't get any other report of movement after that..." Kellia flipped through the pages on the document. "Ah... It seems here that there are rumors of two people trying to collect information about the culture of this country more excessively. The templars tried catching them for questioning but they always managed to escape easily. They tried to surround them once but they ended up losing against just the two of them. It was then known that we tried to pursue members of the [Order of the Crystallized Sentinels]. They left a message that their leader will be visiting soon just for sightseeing. We misunderstood their group as possible spies but seeing as the reputation of Preeliance is that they're a country of peace and mediation, we ought to give the leader of the specialized order with utmost hospitality." The Deaconess turned her gaze to Kellia and immediately asked her the name of the leader. "His name is [Draxus Heimdal], one of the three archons of Preeliance. Would o Deaconess like to meet him?" The Deaconess nodded and asked Kellia politely with a tiny bit of hope in her eyes. "Please, I want to ask him some things." Kellia responded politely to the request that suddenly came out from the Deaconess. "I will try to attain the permission from your mother, the current pope." After Kellia left the room to ask for permission, the Deaconess looked out at the window with a little bit of anticipation in her as she formed a small smile.

Below the cathedral, was an underground dungeon which where it's completely unknown to the entire populace, even by the pope. One person walked down a hidden staircase and entered the area. "Greetings young hero Axel, it seems that you have made progress of your preparations?" Axel, who had his named called after entering the stairs, finds five people with on a dark meeting room. He greets them in response while bowing down. "Greetings of Council of the Skies, would you allow this humble me to provide a report regarding the preparations of the continuation of the collection?" The five people had grinning expressions like they are anticipating on what is about to happen on their process. "We had already collected enough samples worth of thousands of years of effort. So it's already a success of getting the samples, we can produce an artificial army with this too, but it wouldn't hurt to get more. Besides, we have the perfect test subjects for that." Axel tilted his head due to the atmosphere of being left behind. One of the five men simply shrugged his shoulders and got Axel into their boat. "We're gonna use part of this army to fight against the visitors, [Order of the Crystallized Sentinels]. We need information of their capabilities to their utmost maximum so we can make countermeasures for them." Axel immediately understood that they're trying to pick a fight against the Preeliance. "One of us will be staying outside to observe the battlefield that time. So Axel, do whatever you want to dispose the sentinels. Surely, you have the right skill and judgement for that right?" Axel nodded and left the underground junction to try and make some more preparations on handling the current visitors of the sentinels.

The next day came and the two visitors of the sentinels have left of their own accord. It was rumored that the two sentinels are moving around each country to gain information of culture and sightseeing places. They no longer paid any mind as they seem like they managed to collect the necessary information. The Deaconess simply waited in her room while drinking tea alone. She went to do her tasks for the day and got really busy. She waited for a very long day and continued on without doing much. Her days kept repeating back and forth to starting it, talking with the hero, perform her tasks, sing, and take her meals. It was a boring cycle until she got the news from her maid of gaining the permission of having a one-on-one talk with the leader of the sentinels in the case he visits. After a while in waiting in anticipation, the pope who was known to be as young as just over the thirties, came into her room. The Deaconess was probed in with a lot of questions as to why she desired to meet the leader. "Mother... It's because that I wish to know and learn how their lives went... They're from another world and it's likely that they live differently." She was filled to the brim with curiosity despite being a Deaconess to the point where it caused her to be scolded by the pope many times. "Do not ever forget your tradition, you are meant to become a vessel for the holy land's blood. Just like me, your grandmother, and your ancestors. Don't ever forget that." The Pope then left the room with a tinge bit of annoyance detected on her expression. The Deaconess felt a bit sad due to the thoughts of her mother not loving her, but she shrugged it off thinking that her life might change if she meets the sentinels. She looked out to the window once more with a little bit of anticipation in her heart.
