Chapter 3 - Prologue (3/3)

The succession ceremony. An event celebrating the succession of the CEO position within Moss Inc. A tradition that was created to publicize the rise of Darwin Moss, the day after his high school graduation to gain a stable reputation and social standing within the higher class of society.

The giant hall was crowded with reporters, journalists, and other higher-status individuals. All wearing their most beautifully tailored outfit and a smile that would never reach their eyes.

Located at a mansion where prices of even a small one-roomed apartment would cost an arm or a leg, the rich and nonchalant 0.1% of the population began arriving at the front gate a dozen at a time in their eye-catching Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

"Oh, Ms. Yorkshit fancy seeing you here."

"Ah, if it isn't Mr. Hensiworth's gold-digger."

The high classed women greeted each other with words like poison as they all graciously entered the meticulously crafted wooden double door together.

"I heard the young master of the Moss family is a nice-looking fella." Rumors began spreading as dozens after dozens of snobby-looking rich men and women began pouring in.

"I heard he's part of the 0.001%" Another smiled seductively.

"You've already got your disgusting little claws around Mr. Hensiworth'sā€¦ bank account. Thinking about spreading your legs for another man? And one that's over half your age at that?"

"Age doesn't phase me. As long as they can appreciate beauty."

A look of disgust slowly rippled through the surrounding crowd as a loud clank echoed out. A giant metal door at the back of a stage began slowly opening.

"Welcome to the Moss Inc. succession ceremony." A loud voice rang from the giant speakers surrounding the entire hall. "We would like to inform you of some devastating news. The young master of the Moss family would not be attending this succession ceremony."

A chorus of confusion sounded out as a hushed murmuring filled the hall all at once.

"However!" The announcer exclaimed over the noise. "However, the succession will still continue. In place of the young master. The young Lady has chosen a temporary replacement for Moss Inc. CEO position."

Another chorus of confusion.

"I would like to present to you. The new CEO of Moss Inc." The announcer belted out into the speaker as the door continued to open. "Mr. Peter Hart!"

Peter's silhouette could be seen beyond the door as he slowly walked out with a nervous smile and a wave.

"Hello." He cleared his throat and spoke into the mic. "What happened to the Young Master, you all may be wondering. Unfortunately, the Young Master has been caught up in an accident, rendering him unable to take over the company. Until either he recovers or the young lady reaches adulthood, I would temporarily hold the position Of CEO within the company."

"You're not even a part of the Moss family! Get that greedy fake off the stage!" A shout of anger rang out from the crowd, revealing a fuming Charles Moss, with a shattered glass of wine by his feet. "I'm their uncle! I should be taking over! I deserve to be on that stage!"

A small murmuring of the spectators began muttering under their breaths to each other as they all watched amusingly at the chubby old man flailing his arms around, the buttons on his suit slowly popping off one after another.

"I was the one who made this decision." A small voice rang out, drawing everyone's attention back onto the stage.

There stood Delilah in a pastel pink dress and her hair professionally done, accenting the cuteness of her face and outfit.

"I chose Peter Hart to become the CEO of Moss Inc." She bravely proclaimed, "If you are against this decision, please kindly leave. The door is right there." She points at the exit while staring intensely at Charles.

"You! What gives you the right to order me around!" Charles exploded, charging up towards the little girl.

"I'm Delilah Moss. Daughter of Angelica and Callum Moss. If you do not wish to abide by our rules. Then I will have no choice but to use force." Her voice containing the fury and maturity of a grown adult as a squad of security surrounded Charles, blocking his way to the stage. "If I ever see you within my vicinity again, don't even think of leaving with your head intact." She warned, turning back around and not giving another glance.

You'll regret this." Charles grunted with clenched teeth, staring back daggers at Delilah before he furiously punched his way out.

"Also. Take away any shares he has within the company." Delilah let out just as Charles was about to walk through the doors, a vein in his head snapping.

"You motherfu-" His shouting cut short with the slam of the door.

"Now that the nuisance is out of the way." Peter smiled, picking up Delilah. "Please enjoy the banquet."

A burst of applause exploded in every nook and cranny of the hall as each and every person began clapping with a smile of intrigue directed towards the little girl.

"You've worked hard." Peter smiled at Delilah as she wiped a tear from her face, and began toughening herself up.

"It's just the beginning." She muttered, looking out into the crowd.

And just like that, 7 years passed with nothing, but stress and tough decisions.

[Over 700km above Earth]

"Hurry up and cast the spell already." An impatient voice rang out as they floated above the planet.

"Just wait a second. I need to make sure it's stable. Don't want another planet to turn into chaos." Another voice calmed him down as a soft glow illuminated from his palm.

"Fine. I'll just sit here until they find and butcher us into pieces then." The first voice grunted in disapproval, sitting down with his legs crossed, his eyes darting around in alert.

"Just a few more sec-"

Suddenly an ear-deafening shriek echoed out from behind them as a dark violet warp slowly formed behind them.

"The alarm! They're here!" The second individual jumped to his feet, grabbing the other guy by the collar and flying away

"Wai-" However, before he could do anything, the spell which he had gathered in his palm began rapidly racing towards the planet.

"Oh." He stared at it entering the atmosphere, "Not another one..."

"It's fine there are tens of thousands of planets left in the universe. Just call this one a failure."

A sigh escaped the lips of the spell caster as he hung his head in disappointment. "Let's just hurry up and go."

Then they both teleported away. Leaving only the warp becoming larger by the second and a figure walking out. His pale blond hair slightly waving around even though there was no wind nor air present.

"They've snuck away again." The man frowned, looking around with his crimson red eyes before glancing at the planet and looking away with disinterest.

With a sigh, he walked back into the warp, closing it behind him and leaving no trace of his existence behind.
