Chapter 58 - Hostages

"Once the humans are captured, find a safe hiding place and wait for our return, go!"

Given his orders, Alseif jumped on Scarn's back, who, though irritated by his brother, put aside any differences in order to complete the mission.

After all, failure was not an option in their plans, especially for Scarn. He was certain of his imminent demise should he disappoint Kaleichrom once again.

The mythical creatures who inhabited the world of Aurora were creatures of great intelligence.

Kaleichrom, as a direct descendant of a deity, was endowed with great gifts. Great intellect, cunning, unscrupulousness and cold bloodedness, combined with his divine powers, made him the new lord of the Forest of the Howlers.

To the detriment of the previous lord, Kiba's father.

Scarn and Alseif, as his minions, assisted their lord in everything. They knew well what his powers were capable of and could only admire, but at the same time fear the ruler.

While Scarn and Alseif continued in their direction, the wolves made their way to the camp of Alcas and his without delay.

Once there, the three wolves formed a triangle around the camp with the help of the night.

At the same moment, Alcas opened his eyes.

"Alcas, what's wrong?"

His behaviour woke one of his own.

Instinct made him jump up, an instinct that screamed to him that danger loomed.

"Quickly up!" he shouted to his people.

"Yawn... What's going on?" asked one of the boys still caught up in his dream world.

"We're surrounded you idiot! Get up!"

Alcas gave him a kick that lifted him off the ground.

"Ci-circumcised!? By whom!?"

The boy immediately woke up from his sleep along with the others.

"..."

But Alcas didn't answer, with a shocked expression he saw small lights getting closer and closer to them.

"AAAAH!"

Distracted by the scene before him, he jolted when he heard a scream behind him.

It was the terrified scream of one of his companions being carried away by a shadow at a terrifying speed.

"Mark..."

Shocked and pale at what they saw, the remaining members could only call out the name of their unfortunate friend.

The poor boy's scream was violently interrupted, while in the shadows indistinct sounds of breaking bones echoed around them.

"Wh-what..."

Trembling as they imagined the scene, they were seized by an uncontrollable fear.

Even Alcas paled, everything they were experiencing seemed like a nightmare. But the nightmare became real when three huge silhouettes emerged from the darkness.

"They are wolves!" said Alcas, stammering, unable to believe what he was seeing. He had hunted wolves before, but never like these ones that appeared before him.

Huge and mighty, with a suffocating aura that left no chance to even think. The pace of the three wolves was slow but steady, their jaws still dripping fresh blood, and it didn't take long to work out who they belonged to.

Alcas's group stood at the centre of the encirclement, paralysed. Whether it was fear or the suffocating power of the three wolves, their fate seemed sealed.

"Humans, if you don't want to end up like your comrade I suggest you follow us quietly."

A hoarse and wild voice reached the ears of the group.

"S-speak!"

Alcas petrified at the sound of the voice, cold shivers ran down his spine.

"Wh-what do you want from us!? Have you been wronged by us?" though frightened, he was no ordinary boy, unlike his own, who found themselves on the ground helpless.

After all, he was Aaron's son, so he took courage and did not allow fear to take control of his spirit.

The wolves' attention turned to Alcas, who suddenly felt suffocated by the strong pressure he received.

"Oh, it seems our warning wasn't enough, you have human guts," said one of the three wolves.

The ability to withstand their pressure immediately gave the wolves reason to believe that Alcas was an important member of the village, which cheered them up even more.

"Your lives are in our hands, follow us without question!"

The voice of another wolf came over.

"Do we have any other options?" asked Alcas wryly.

"No," replied a wolf not used to human irony.

"No, indeed..."

So Alcas and his group followed the three wolves without any resistance.

Surprisingly, not far from them, a person witnessed everything that happened.

"This is terrible..."

Still shaken by what happened, Rei followed the wolves, avoiding leaving any traces that could lead back to her.

Despite her young age, she was endowed with innate talents unknown even to her, the wolves didn't notice her presence at all.

On the other hand, on the other side of the forest, exactly in front of the entrance to the barrier, Evan, Logar and Aaron were gathered together with a group of chosen men.

"Everything is ready, gentlemen," said one of the elders.

"This barrier never ceases to amaze me every time I see it," Evan whispered in amazement. He felt a great power coming from the barrier, unknown even to the members of the capital.

"We don't know what its actual powers are, all we know is that it was our ancestor with the help of other people who erected it."

Logar replied in a nostalgic tone. He could only sigh at the former glory of his family. But his concern for his daughter and, why not, for the rabble-rouser with her, distracted him from any further unnecessary thoughts.

"Despite this, intruders have still broken in under our noses!" complained an elder loudly.

"All this further affirms the danger to our boys," replied another in a serious tone.

"They got in by virtue of their beast nature, but just because they got in doesn't mean they can get out as easily," Aaron added.

For some reason he seemed to be confident in saying.

"But of course! After all, Commander Evan is here with us too!"

The members of the elders placed extreme confidence in Evan, but more importantly in the power of the capital.

"Well, off we go then!"

Evan followed by Logar, Aaron and his men, crossed the barrier without any delay.
