Chapter 3 - Chapter: 3

Leo

"Is It even possible?" Aiden asked, looking frustrated.

"Well, it is, as everything is right in front of us," Austin calmly stated as if the panorama unfolding in the front of our eyes is the most predominant thing.

"How it is not even melting!?" Logan asked Aiden

"How I am supposed to know?" Aiden spats.

Someone is in a crappy mood. I made a cognitive note, that not to do any foolish thing today.

"Because you are a forensic officer?" Jack glanced at Aiden.

"I have to take the samples of the ice and run the test. Before that, I can't say anything," Aiden said, shaking his head.

We all peeped down from the bridge at the frozen river.

How the fucking river just froze?

Into thick ice.

I mean river Den has been frozen before when the climate was worst when the temperature was below 16 degrees. But the weather is not even cold. It didn't even snow. It's scientifically impossible that the river is frozen when the temperature of the atmosphere, is nearly 22 degrees.

The most unbelievable part is, the ice is somewhat strange. It looks eerie. It's not even melting. I don't get why are we even here. It's not like we are gonna melt the ice with a blow dryer. Why did these people call the special task force for this?

"Hey look there is something else!" Ian said pointing at the far away. We followed his gaze and once again, we saw something which was not our ability to comprehend.

There seems like a man, who was frozen.

"We need to get down to check thoroughly," Jack let out.

"But we can't walk on ice though. It's dangerous and risky," Aiden said.

"That's why we are here because it's risky," I replied.

"That's right. I will call the crane. Leo and Owen be ready," Logan commanded.

After a while, the crane arrives. A thick metal bond was tightly tied around our waist and I and Owen were ready to jump down.

"Yeah. Check the cables around our kids. Is it tight enough?" Aiden asked nervously the people who were operating the crane. They nodded in response.

"You both be careful," Aiden told us.

"Yes, momma!" Owen and I chimes.

"Boys don't leap, they will release you down deliberately. Ice might be shallow," Austin told us.

Owen and I nodded.

"Ready?" Owen asked.

We bumped our fists and jumped jointly.

"I fucking told you not to jump!"

"Language Austin!"

We were unexpectedly suspended in the air, and then slowly the people in the crane were settling us down.

Our feet touched the ice and chills ran down my spine when freezing waves shrouded me. The ice is not normal. Something about it makes me feel anxious.

"It smells like lavender," Owen twitched his eyebrows, sniffing the ice.

Yes, it does. The same smell I experience yesterday at night.

"The ice is relatively unusual," I stated.

"Yeah. Let's get moving," he said and beckoned towards the huge block of ice.

We both walked slowly and cautiously. The ice was thick as hell as if it was frozen right from the bottom.

"Be caution Leo," he looked in my way.

"You too"

We finally caught up with the man. We both glance at each other with spectacle eyes.

The man was shoved into a block of crystal clear ice.

"Daebak! I haven't seen anything like this in 25 years of my existence!" Owen stated as he closely observed the block of ice. I stroll in a loop around the ice, attempting to unravel what the hell is this.

How did this man get in it?

Did he shove himself in?

Why would he?

"We have to heave this up. He must be dead already," Owen said putting on an apologetic look. I look back at him and we both sighed.

We dragged the block of ice near the bridge. Strangely my hand was able to put up with the cold. I was able to touch ice without flinching and drawing my hand back due to a burning sensation.

Owen was on another hand, was having a hard time. But we managed.

The team on the crane lifts the block of ice with their machine. Thank goodness. I thought we have to take this up.

Later we both were dragged up as well. Logan and Aiden were already there with hot water.

Owen shoved his hand in a towel that Jack was holding for us.

"Hey, Leo warm your hands up!" Jack told me.

"I am fine," I assured them. I was feeling cold but not too much. My hands were absolutely fine.

Aiden collects the sample of the ice, it was hard to collect it but he did. We headed to the headquarters.

"Aiden will run the tests. Ian and Jack check the CCTV, make sure not to miss even a second of footage. Austin, talk to the people who first informed us about the incident. Owen, make sure that no media can get the news of a man who is in the ice block."

"Well now before we get started. I have an announcement. I just received a text from our head of the department. He is gonna visit us and we are having a new team member," Logan announced

"New member?" Owen asked.

"Well yeah. He is a forensic officer. The department realized that it's hard for Aiden to manage alone so they decided on the new recruitment," he elaborated.

We all were silent. I wonder if they are liking this situation. Because I am not. The way we work and our cooperation together will be distributed by the newcomer. He won't be able to understand the way we work and we won't able to understand his way of working.

"I am okay with it. I find it difficult to work on forensics alone," Aiden honestly admitted.

"Whatever it is. He is an important officer. And we have to be good with him that's the strict orders from the authority. So boys I want all of you to be on your best behavior. Especially Ian and Leo and Owen, no pulling pranks," he warned us. We all nodded.

Important he says.

Whatever.

The bells chimes, indicating the arrival of the person.

"Standup," Logan orders. We stood up in unison.

The huge tinted glass doors parts and a man in a grey crisp suit step in. It's our HOD.

"Salute to our senior," Logan commanded.

We salute.

"Fire boys are glowing are ever," he gleamed at us.

We stood straight, not showing any expressions. It's not that we don't like him. But still, we have to be respectful towards him and keep being professional.

"So I believe Captain Logan has already told you about the new member," he raised his brows.

"Yes sir," We chime in unison.

"Losen up boys. Chill a bit, I am not eating you alive," he chuckles. It helped us to feel relaxed.

"So the member will be here. She is outside, taking a call," he said.

What?

She?

We glanced at each other in skepticism.

"Why are your faces so pale?" the HOD asked.

Suddenly my chest began ailing.

Why again?

Shudders scampered through me due to extreme coldness.

The glass door parts and her heels click loudly in the voiceless room. The catwalk loved the way she glided with a leopard-like grace without skipping a beat, taking small yet powerful steps. My eyes voyaged from her feet to her face.

"What the fuck are you doing here?!" my voice cuts through the silent room, making each skull turn, bestowing me with query stares.

I kept my eyes on her.

I forgot how to breathe or I can say I just couldn't breathe because of the cold.

It's her.

The mystical girl.

The ache in my chest was getting worst. I pulled a straight face and looked into her sunken eyes. They didn't blink, those eyes were staring at me. Her hair was not icy blue, but shiny chocolate brown locks loosely laced and tied with a black silk ribbon. My eyes trail down at her fingers. No white stoned ring. But just a blue shimmering ring, with a place blue stone.

"Well I like the Welcome," she winked at me.
