The Six Noble Houses of Jord

Though there are three kingdoms, only one kingdom is backed by the Church of the Holy Sword. This kingdom chooses its rulers from one of six noble families which bear the mark of divinity. These houses consist of long and complicated lineages that trace them back to an origin family, based from the original king, Raphael Westfallion.

These six great houses are so large that many of their members are barely more than servants, though some of them in the Great Houses of Fallion, Castellio, and Alaverde, live more traditionally noble lives, whereas Tilmar, Arand, and Godeslas, may be close to the name "Smith" in modern usage, there are so damn many of them.

Mark of Divine Rule - Heterochromia eyes mark the ruling family. Usually a new heir appears every other generation, once about 15-20 years. Rumor is that the current ruling family has been blessed by Teiwaz and he will live an unnaturally long life. Ruling families have a lot of children, and people vying for political marriages to increase their chances. It is considered the duty of each child to produce as many heirs as possible. Many use fertility treatments to have more children. No one knows what triggers the birthmark, since it seems fairly random and no one can predict it. This has led to division within the royal court as arguments abound.

Wardens: An organization of men and woman charged to patrol the far edges of Drassin. They act as investigators, game wardens, law enforcement, and mediators for citizens living on the fringes of the empire. They are the first line of defense from invasion. There is great honor in becoming a Warden but it lacks the prestige that comes with Knighthood.

Church of the Holy Sword:

The Scales - Trinity at the head of the Church. Pillar, Sceptre and Wolf.

Pillar - The Pillar of the Church of the Holy Sword is the secular and spiritual leader of the faith of Teiwaz. Politically speaking, he is one of the few unifying factors in the otherwise factional world of Jord. In the absence of a ruler marked by the Gods, he can appoint a new ruler, usually from one of the current royal line or his own children. The representation of the religious figurehead of the church, St. Fleur. The pillar also holds the title of "Dragonslayer" to represent St. Fleur's triumph over the Tatya hini's dragons.

Sceptre - Administers the Whisperers which control the Flamen Saulis, and the Order of the Resplendent Mother. He is the lead spy, acts as the Pillar's eyes and ears.

Wolf - Head of the martial orders of the knights and the Templars. She acts as the hands of the Pillar.

Flaumen Saulis - Male order of Embers under the control of the Church of the Holy Sword. Kept isolated in monasteries from female Embers and in fewer numbers than the Order of the Resplendent Mother.

The Fleur- Clergy of the Church of the Holy Sword. Wear clothing in shades of blue consisting of a high color dark blue and white shift under a single breasted jacket of a lighter shade of blue over near white blue slacks.

Order of the Resplendent Mother - Convents of female Embers under the control of the Church of the Holy Sword, venerate Saule and are kept in isolation from the males of their species.

Sisters of the Resplendent Mother hold several ranks: Apprentice, Journey Sister; Junior Helka, Helka. It is rare to see Embers outside their convents unless they are accompanying Templars on a mission or are are involved in a ceremony for the Church.

Templars of the Holy Sword: Anti-magic knights, this order is fairly small with about 1 in 100 knights selected for training but those that succeed in their training are far fewer. Sent out to recover Heartstone artifacts, hunt down Apostates, and kill Elven Mages, rogue Embers and Aphotics. Armored in Maraium plate and using breech loaded flintlocks with Maraium rounds.

Whisperers - Order of spies, astropaths, assassins for the Church of the Holy Sword. They guide Embers and keep track of Templars. Led by the Sceptre. They typically keep their lower faces covered in public in uniform of a dark shade of blue, near black. Their garb is a high collared jacket with tails over slacks and boots.
