The night was filled with the sound of light showers gently pounding on the rusted iron sheeted roof of the mud hut!
The Priest sighed, his eyes now accustomed to the dark, were fixated at the light peeping through the gap between the mudfloor and the old door that now stood on a single hinge! It took some tact to close and lock it!
He was thinking about the events of the past few months, and hoped that he was done with the demons that had been terrorizing him! Something startled him and he sat up his 'makuti' bed- a wooden frame woven with dried palm leaves. He felt some movement outside his door, then he had a dog bark. He relaxed and dropped his head back to his pillow.
'Pepsi!', he called out in the dark.
'Woof-woof!', the dog seemed to reply to his master's inquiry.
Pepsi held several positions in the Priest's life. He was his pet, companion and protector. He was more of a watchman than a protector for he could only alert him of an unfamiliar presence around his compound, but could not protect him from an onslaught.
Especially, if it was spirit in nature!
