Chapter 9 - Create My Kingdom: Chapter 9

Symphonia:

Walking through the woods with my Father wasn't quite as scary as I first believed it to be. The old me from Earth was always terrified of bugs and other wildlife, but now that I can communicate with them the fear's seem to wash away. It's as if the forest has now become a bustling intersection with daily life playing out around me. I can hear the birds chirping to each other about the worms they were out to hunt for. I could hear the deer prancing through the woods calling each other names, goading each other to run faster. When I asked God for the ability to communicate with the flora and fauna I never expected for it to come out quite like this.

My father was walking ahead of me keeping his eyes glued to the tree line. Inspecting each thing as a potential threat. I felt relieved he was there, but I also figured that I would hear something say they wanted to eat the human things before I had cause for concern.

Sam had asked me before why the plants were moving, and honestly I didn't know why they did. I can't hear the trees or plants communicating, but I feel their presence. I imagine it's the same thing for Sam and sensing his mana when he turns it into magic. I can feel it, but when I listen closely it doesn't sound like anything really. When I ask them to do something there's a long delay and pause and then they do it. It's honestly a bizarre experience.

After walking with my father all day it was quickly turning from day to dusk, from dusk to nightfall.

"Are we stopping to camp anywhere Father?"

"Not yet sweet daughter of mine." He looked back and smiled at me. We kept marching along until all the light that was above, was the small little wisps of moon that peaked through the canopy above.

The city-esque forest that surrounded me was still alive with chatter from the surrounding animals and bugs. It was an oddly pleasing sensation. I kept pace with my father as we marched all through the night. We only stopped when we came upon a cabin that looked like it was in a decrypt state.

"This will be our lodging for the night. Make sure you get some sleep." He chucked his pack to the ground, pulling out a piece of jerky and quickly shoved it into his mouth. Not even ten seconds after he was snoring loud enough to awaken the dead.

"Goodnight to you too, Father." I rolled my eyes and calmly did the same. I entered a soundless sleep allowing the sounds of chitter's and chatters to lull me into sleep.

"Food. Food. Food. Food is nearby. Eat two legged people. Eat them up real nice."

I rocketed awake jerking forward only to have a hand clamp down on my mouth. I inspected the hand quickly trying to reach for my pack to grab a weapon. My father brought his face close to mine and gestured for me to be quiet by placing a finger over his lips. As quietly as he could he arose and went to grab his bag. My father couldn't hear the voice that I was hearing. It already knew we were here and was trying to eat us.

I quickly stood up and went over to my bag grabbing a hold of the dagger and my bow my father gave me. Since I still didn't have a clue how to use the bow I slung it over my shoulder.

He motioned for me to come by his side and I quietly obeyed. I slinked over to him.

"I'll cook them in a stew. I'll cook them in fire. I'll listen to their screams as I drool over my pyre. Hehe."

If it wasn't for the bizarre rhythms this creature was spewing I would have been absolutely terrified. My father unsheathed an arrow from his pack and lightly set it against the string of his bow. I could tell by the stern look from my father that he was prepared to handle whatever I was listening to outside. I could hear the shuffling of feet outside, and a small knock at the door.

BAMM

The door flew open and I could feel the twang of my father's bow as he seamlessly fired his arrow as the door touched the floor. I saw something squirming on the ground. The smell of bronze touched my nose, and a voice broke through in garbled patches.

"What… why… it… hurts… warm… I… hungry…"

"Are you ok Daughter?" My father grabbed my arm to pull me so that I was face to face with him. He looked me up and down.

"Did he hit you with anything? Are you OK?" He shook me so hard that I could feel my teeth rattle.

"Yes. I'm fine." I said through clenched teeth. Even though it was a creature that resembled a goblin from Earth's lore it still set me on edge watching it die. It was the first time in my thirty odd years of living to take its last breath.

My father stood up and walked over to the goblin-like creature.

"What is the name of that creature?" I was hoping that my father wouldn't notice the tremble in my voice. He looked me up and down, nodded his head and began to talk about the creature that lay at his feet.

"This is a Mogglin. They are carnivorous creatures that have a special taste for the flesh of humans. These creatures must be put down whenever you have the chance. They have a tendency to kidnap young women to further increase their plague across the land."

He looked back at me and gave me a wry smile.

"Are you ok? I know that this is your first time seeing something like this."

He came over and enveloped me in a big hug. It was the warmest hug I've felt in a long time. It was the warm embrace of a father. Something I never felt in my old life on Earth.
